Posted by Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 25/12/2010 23:31:59: Our club has a strange tradition on Boxing day - folks go down to the field - take a flask have nip - but no one flies a model! Good fun though!   We still have snow on the ground - like most others I guess - I've been resisting buying/making a set of skis - I just know that the second I do the big thaw will come...   But I suspect I won't get any of my models off the ground under the present conditions.   BEB   PS Note to self - Must write more but shorter posts Time to break with tradition!  I fitted an old pair of floats that I was given a while back to my Limbo Dancer last week - worked brilliantly!
  2. Posted by Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 25/12/2010 23:25:32: OK, Stephen built a Seagul model - anyone else built a Seagull model - I haven't. I've heard good things about them though.   BEB I was lucky enough to win a Seagull Extra 300S on this very forum - very pleased with it and it was nicely built.  There was a problem with the supplied fuel tank fitting through the front bulkhead which needed work with a Dremel - although as I was fitting a Super Tigre 91 instead of the recommended 60 I needed to fit a larger SLEC tank anyway.  Perhaps it was a pre-production model that had been sent to RCM&E but I must say I was a little disappointed not to receive any acknowledgment from the distributor when I pointed this out to them.  Anyway, despite this minor problem I have had many happy hours out of it and it continues to perform well.

  4. I would post just to help the cause but as that would be unethical, I'd better not.
  5. Duties done - can log back in...and add a contribution to the postings count!  Well done Stephen  - but why wait so long to fly it though?
  6. He did say the build would start at 10 - unfortunately I won't be on line much to watch its progress - SWMBO will be finding a new use for the stuffing if she catches me on the forum today!
  7. I've had similar response on more than one occasion - this isn't an isolated example!
  8. I hope it doesn't hurt too much to laugh because if it does you'll be in agony after that one! Wishing you a speedy recovery and hope you're up and about soon...
  9. Have you contacted Mick Reeves yet - surely it's best from the horse's mouth? This link might be handy if anything is missing or has suffered in storage...
  10. Scotland do sometimes compete in certain county cricket competitions...
  11. That's either some mighty wiring or a very small LiPo... Why not whip the funny connector off and use your favourite plugs and sockets?  Sorry Ulty - you beat me to it while I was typing! Edited By Martin Harris on 13/12/2010 17:18:18
  12. Whoops - sorry Timbo but your admonishment was on the next page!!!
  13. Myron, I don't doubt it - I wouldn't have forgotten either!    I was referring to Doug's X-type...
  14. Posted by Simon Chaddock on 07/12/2010 23:35:46: DougDoes petrol actually go off? After all the stuff it is distilled from is millions of years old. Reminds me (sorry, bit off topic) of when I checked some bottled water that claimed it contained water that had been filtered through rocks for several million years  - mine was within a few months of its use by date - lucky or what?!?!? 15. I thought as much but with all the talk of E-types, I did wonder if you meant it was a Mark X - which wouldn't suffer in the least. For info - from a cat manufacturer's website: Plugged Or Contaminated. Plugged or contaminated catalytic converters are caused by using the wrong sort of fuel in your car. Using leaded or lead replacement fuel will plug up the monolith and cause it to stop working. A similar thing will happen if fuel additives are used that are not suitable for use with a catalytic converter. Oil FouledThis is caused by oil getting into the exhaust system and contaminating the catalytic converter. The most likely cause is a leaking gasket. Using old 2 stroke fuel might cause either of these unhealthy conditions although I accept it would be well diluted. Personally, I wouldn't risk it for the sake of a fiver! Edited By Martin Harris on 08/12/2010 11:10:04
  16. Petrol definitely goes off (usually within a couple of years) but I'd also be concerned about poisoning the cat - the tin box full of expensive platinum, not the furry thing on the sofa - assuming it has one...
  17. That sort of comment gives me the pip!
  18. There's an old saying that it's only the hairs on a gooseberry that stop it from being a grape, so perhaps you could reverse the process?
  19. Posted by Ernie on 06/12/2010 13:06:05: Hi Guys, It's awful, we're moving house (with a fine big workshop) but oh, the hassle. Any clever ideas about avoiding the shelves, the new bathroom, building the logpile, cleaning the attic, painting the kitchen, cleaning the chimney etc. etc   ernie ...or do you mean that it's the fine big workshop that has a bathroom, logpile, attic, kitchen, chimney etc. etc. in addition to the shelves that you (or your good lady if you've taken my previous advice) will be fitting for your piles of modelling gear?
