  1. That looks the part. Am keen to hear how she flies..
  2. Thank you. Maybe test it in the sand box first..
  3. Is it possible to add a video to a post the same as one would add a photo? Without having to to have a youtube account and link to that.
  4. I absolutely agree with you. These classic pattern planes make really good sport planes now. Not too big, not too small and fly very well. I'm 3/4 through scratch building a 'Dirty Birdy' myself but progress is being slowed down by othe projects jumping the Q...
  5. Maidened four weeks ago and flown almost every weekend since, my latest creation which I have named "Sati're". It is a Tiger 60 with a Saturn SE wing and horizontal stabilizer, suitably stretched to fit. Span is at 72 inch excl. the tip tanks, which are removable for transport. Electric retracts to keep things sleek. Flaps for steep landing approaches, although they are really not necessary. Powered by an ST61, I realized half way through the build that it was getting a bit big and heavy for the .61 (takeoff weight is more than 4.6Kg) but I was in too deep not to see the project through. As expected, power is, well, adequate....and it will remain like that since it actually flies really well, no doubt due to a pattern ships wing section. The look I was after was something akin to the Aermacchi MB326 (Known as the Impala in South Africa) and the Marchetti SF260, all with a vertical Stabilizer from a Mooney.
  6. My thinkin is that there should be a nut and washer loosely screwed onto those srews. The nut and washer are then inserted into the hole of the keyhole and the SFG slid backwards into the slot. The screws are then tightened up, clamping the SFG tight.
  7. Another thumbs up for the wedged sanding block. It is my 'go to' sanding block. I find my round needle file (rat Tail) most useful as well, not just for the obvious filing but it makes the most perfect drill bit for balsa, liteply and ply. I use it as such in my battery drill very often. It will not splinter the wood on the exit side. The rotary rod and rotary drum for the 'Dremel' type tool are also used extensively.
  8. Maidened earlier this year, a World Models 80" Zero. Powered by an OS 160FX spinning an 18X8 Prop. Electric retracts fitted as well as some cockpit detailing and weathering. This was an old but NIB find and all of the covering had to be removed and re-done. An absolute peach to fly and land, provided flaps are used on landing.
  9. I have similar issues with my Horus and two R168 receivers. Random telemetry and signal loss and servos that suddenly move to their extremities at random. I have tries all manner of firmware updates but the issues persists. These Two receivers are now banished to the workshop desk drawer. I will also stick to the Frsky receivers...
  10. I'm in Sunny South Africa and, with certain rules in place, we are able to fly. My tailplane is 6mm balsa sheet and should not flutter. Perhaps this sheet was softer than i thought? I was really surprized to get flutter. Never happened before. Not just elevator flutter but the entire tailplane. In retrospect, the profiled , sheeted, foam core tailplane will be inheritently stiffer. None -the- less, shortening the tailplane has done the trick and flight performance is not affected.
  11. My Chilli Wind finally maidened. For some reason I had tailplane flutter (the entire tailplane), even at very low speed. So the tailplane tips were cut off just outward of the middle elevator hinge. With a hacksaw, at the field. This sorted the problem and back home the tailplane covering was removed and it was glassed top and bottom to improve rigidity. At the same time the cowling was made. A re-maiden confirmed that all was good.. A really great flier and with a .55AX up front, goes like a bat out of hell. And she is a real floater, need to slow down really early for landings. The only thing I need to do, is to change the top wing colour scheme. I just cannot see this plane in the air. d
