Wow ! I have been using wheelspin in the past. Leeds model shop has been mentioned in the past as has the shop advertised in rcme, Weston's, but that contains no castor. PAW recommend a weston's fuel but check. Paraffin, castor, ether and a drop of ipn or similar John deer "easy start' has highest ether content. Paraffin is available Paw used to do castor, know any angina suffers ? Leccy may have beaten me with his reply so no worries Yuo may come across some reluctance to sending stuff via royal mail ( just like lipos ) but some carriers will send it Happy flicking, lots of burps and brrrrr's to come. Been putting off reading this thread until engine is running

Great story leccy and extremely plausable. Nice me Phil, bb's and bw's etc. can still be had, newish, dens model supplies in UK, Cox international as you say, exmodelengines and mecoa, buy mecoa is not very uk friendly it seems. Silencers and rc throttles are available too. The td09's I have can be heard in the next village unsilenced ! Would love a 15, in the style of td09, and/or any rC silenced Cox. Only model I ever managed to set on fire ( only knew it was ablaze due to the heat ) was a Cox pt19 cl plane. Blew it out with no damage to me or the plastic Would love one of those pt19's and a Stuka ! Mecoa may be making pt19's. Cox model engine forum, Turbines.... Remember the reduced nitro rules in glow fuels, anyone ? Happy landings out there.

Hi eb, glad you have an IC engine, s petrol one at that ! If answering your question has resulted in thread drift, perhaps you should not have asked ? Anyways, back to the future of our IC engines...it seems methanol is bring used to power ships ! They don't do 40 nautical miles to the ton, or do they ? Balsa shortages/price hikes due to wind turbine blades....mmmm. Enjoy while you can.
-
Hi eb, you posed a question as did I, more than once. Many members on here also pose questions.
-
? is a question mark by the way.
-
Hi John, hope that's not the plant that blow up quite some years ago now...remember that anyone ?
-
With respect, how can talking about IC engine fuel be "thread drift " ? That's a bit like saying batteries have nothing to do with electric propulsion, and, weather, the air, the medium in which model aeroplanes fly, is irrelevant ? God knows how much "drift" will take place in the "car" thread, electric "fuel" versus "refined crude oil" or even "grown" fuel....etc... However, I will shut up about the "fuel" dimension to this thread. Watch the repeat of the TV program on Sunday probably, I am sure it was the "hairy bikers" , and listen for the word mentioned whilst they where in the distillery.... Have a great day out there.
-
A ww1 nerve/poison gas.... Methanol, that's the word I heard mentioned on the TV program. I mentioned it followed by a ? Will watch repeat on Sunday ? Funnily enough glow engines run on the stuff.
-
IC engines, burn a fuel, glows use a methanol fuel If the fuel becomes unavailable, could it be "home made" ? I am sure the TV program I heard the "methanol" being mentioned will be repeated Sunday. Lots of stainless steel kit and two hairy bikers if I am correct..... Someone mentioned getting the liquids from chemists shop way back when, and running s Cox BB with no nitro. I have run Cox bb's on Mt straight castor... So, if fuel becomes unavailable, could home brew ( or fermented/distilled ????? ) Fuel be made, meaning that tea chest full of engines under the bench could be still used ?? Or if you like, drink yourself to death instead. Happy landings hick......
-
If I remember correctly I was told that wartime spitfire compasses contained s liquid, which was drunk. Purple meths was also drunk The stuff I have which I have been told NOT TO DRINK can be used as a basis for a FUEL, but needs lots of sugar to make it, as a FUEL. Even cooking brandy will burn eg xmas pud etc.. If you believe "whisky galore" , it will make a truck petrol engine "perform"... Anyways, alcohol fuels have been used for some time.....
-
Only as a fuel NOT as a drink, a FUEL. It was mentioned on a tv program so add plenty of seasoning
-
In a recent TV cookery program it was said that 80 percent home made alcohol was/is methanol ? Takes lots of sugar to make it I was told, gives me a headache, absorbs moisture like billyo and by God the best cleaner/degreaser I have used apart from carbontet . I treat the stuff with very real caution ! Still not plucked up enough courage to put some in the moped ! 🤓

Draw around each part, even wing profile at centre, as accurately as you can BEFORE you glue everything together so you have "patterns".....you know it makes sense. May I ask is yours a mk1 ?? Anyways enjoy. Even a mk1 40 powered 3 channel is well capable of some aerotricks and inverted flight, at least mine was. Well able to fly in windy weather ( when isn't it windy in this country, near the west coast ) reliably. Favourite "trick" was to make model appear to 'fly backwards', good response practise. Enjoy !

Hope your not putting fuel on top/under/next to your particular storage method. Best keep those too best friends far apart I feel... Only commenting is all

Nice, you will find "outer zone" very interesting. Enjoy

Post overlap...interesting to see pictures it's taken ...

Yes JD, you know that but do they ? Even a tatty old land rover ( tax and mot exempt I hope with a reg like TAF 123 🤓🏴 ) is worth quite something, even as spares . Lots of National Trust land near Pembroke coast ( magnificent scenery and sloping opportunities, I known, I walked the coastal paths early 2000's, Dale etc. ) area No drones or other "powered" model flying. Does this drone have a camera ? Is this drone under 250g ? Leccy highlighted caa number ... Does operate even have insurance ? Way too many " negatives" to suggest that pilot is in fact "dishonest" and may be up to no good ?

PAW ci IC engines are wonderfull bits of kit, but paw also do precision engineering too, so are "similarish" to laser in that respect, a multi stringed bow. Noise and fuel availability/cost are the deciding factor as to using an IC motor I feel. Electric propulsion is also noisey and possibly more annoying to some people. The "hobby"/sport is continually being challenged with increasing rules, it's participant becoming "de skilled" due to fantastic foamies rather than "hand made" plan based models. For me, either kit or more often plan based hand made flying models being IC powered ( but I do have some electric propulsion models ) and/or slope soarers is the way to go. We are all different but have one thing in common, a desire to fly an RC model aeroplane. Sadly I cannot afford to fly the real things. Enjoy the hobby while we still can. Happy Easter, and landings.

Emiw, not Ernie, dam predictive text ! Apologies.....

Hi Ernie, Clwydian hills, lovely... There will be a slope soaring club localish to you. The Wrexham model shop closed some years ago now but I believe there is a model shop in the Mold area ? Having flow ( and successfully landed dead stick many times ) from a slope before you will soon get back into the swing of things having plenty of time to practise, even landing approaches. No fantastic 5 mins foamy or 15 mins glow joy before having to land, rather your batteries ( and your bodies ( fingers ) ) stamina, duration and ability to tolerate the cold ! Read up, prepare, research, check, check and check again, visit your chosen flying site, say hello, look, relearn but most of all Enjoy. As you know slope soaring is many things, but most of all, a real breath of fresh air flying Fun ! The great orme and cilan headland ( abersoch ) is not a million miles away from you and a really good ( summers and winters ) day out in the fresh air. Keep your wits about you on the slope. Discipline it seems can be lacking in "some" groups. Even though I tend to fly solo, I still shout out "landing" etc..

Can you identify this model aeroplane?

Hi Ian, Back track a few posts to the plan picture. The "arrow" above the wing rear joiner "tube" may be the C of g, just cannot zoom in to see clearly on this cheapo internet phone. If you have a proper computer/vdu, then you should be able to see what's written on the plan etc.. If that is the C of g, it's quite a bit "rearward".....but then again I cannot see the plan and text clearly, until I visit the library after this weekends "mayhem". -

Hi flyboy, Shops are closing local to me but I get my foam board ( model makers board ) from "the range" in Bangor 20 miles away. It comes in one thickness only as far as I remember, A4, A3 and A2 They may stock larger "a" size but I only get the a sizes mentioned, transport problems. Paper foam paper laminate, the paper peels off easily Bangor b and q stock the black foam underlay in a large size multi sheet pack. There will be online and model shop suppliers... Have not watched the video you mention, that bag of sweets will be opened and watched next time I am in the library, a bus ride away. I hope you will post progress in this thread ? Clarke y wing section ? rich -
Some of you will no doubt remember watching a particular TV program about a battle tank ( centurion ? ) seen in broad daylight on a hill ridge some distance away. Seen in silouette, it stuck out like a black soar thumb on the skyline. Unmistakable. The bright white light search light mounted on the tanks turret was turned on and aimed at the camera taking the pictures some distance away. On turning on the search light, the tank was said to "disappear" with no bright white light searchlight seen either !

Hi guys, Solar tec is good stuff but the soon gets grubby. I painted the hi boy but it added weight, quite a lot in fact, but was really easy to clean. I believe there is a spray on "armour coat" for fabric and carpets ? ?, but no idea if it would be suitable for solar tex or for use with fuels. Maybe your better halfs use a similar product on your carpets ? May be worth doing a bit of experimentation on a solartex covered sample ? ? ? Perhaps ?
