Ps I am a gog, troll that one. And I consider myself a novice again, a tyro, not I've done xyz so I am blah blah blah, and then you film it and put it on here. When you where flying, no that not right, controling, no, guiding, no not quite, watching the model and filming it, where was the camera ? On your head ? I hope to god your not going to say " I was holding the camera" are you ? I am a novice again, you are not.

I think the newish government add is trying to, the one that says look them in the eye and say you have done as much as you could ( could, should etc ) to help stop the spread of this now very very very contagious virus ? Are you on furlow by the way, be honest now. I wonder what the Bmfa/CAA think about the post, ignoring any/all covid considerations ? I am returning to RC aeromodeling after a good 20 years and consider my self a tyro, a novice again, so much has changed but the basics are still the same, hun in the sun, dipping wing, stall, prop hanging ( even control line, theyLL do that from time to time ) close the throttle if you can and get the thing down safely, don't don't don't hit anyone, or anything. You deliberately put the think into the ground if you gave to, no matter what the cost of the model ! Things change....

Site migration, please be aware of the dates...

Photo drag and drop? Will that work on a phone ? Yes the new version works much better on a phone than this old version. Many of the enhancements that have been asked for here for quite a while seem to be included. The look is quite different but after a short adjustment, I'm sure most folk will take to it quickly. I think we'll have a lot of fun helping each other get used to it. Edited By Chris Bott - Moderator on 28/01/2021 21:31:15 -
Yep, I am not going to use 27mhz in planes, they can go into the low speed ( walking pace ) boats. I am converting the r and e and r and a powered models to 3 channel so I can shut the engine down if need be, in the interests of safety. If the 35mhz Futaba has more black wire corrosion, I will condem it. In the bin. I will buy new 2.4 radio gear, it's only money. Anyone wanna buy an RC boat and help out with my new radio gear fund ? Oh dear, the worth of the model has no bearing on flying, or at least I haven't found that bit in the Bmfa book or on the CAA site, but I'm still reading/swatting up for the opp number and flier number tests. We don't go out if we can help it. I only go out for shopping and bring home as much as I can carry. I only go shopping once a week, less if I can. I would love to go to the football field as dry days have been flat calm, and the football field is just about, but only just, big enough for the ninja helo santa gave me for Xmas. I cannot honestly say that that outing would be "essential". I don't work for the government. The CAA say something like the fuel tank must have enough fuel for the expected flight. Good job your drone has on board "clever" technology. You say the camera was in the drone, so how did the drone camera track the plane. Was the drone flying at the time. I could go on, but, have you ever been to downing Street and done a TV interview in the back garden there? Only asking so don't shoot me please. Isn't there some rule about filming for money ? Anyway, so far you have got away with it, don't advertise, you are not stupid.

Drones have there uses, yeh right, like potentially causing a loud flash bang and national grid problem, would love to be a fly on the wall if that one went to court. Wonder what Bmfa say about power lines. Anyway no real harm as far as we know, but an "essential outing " ? Maybe a pusher version next time ? By the way, was the camera on your head ? Your using it for glow fuel, yes ? I was thinking for diesel, bespoke tank made to measure from the space available, even tank as part of the structure maybe, but need to kiss, keep it simple. Edited By Rich Griff on 28/01/2021 17:17:35

I only hope you put spruce spars in the free plan Amelia wing. Seen one of them wing fold in gentle flying banking to the right. It had not many flights and gentle flying. Wing failed just beyond fuselage/ wing root on left wing. Twas totalled.

All this during covid, not to mention power lines, the sun, that big yellow balloon in the sky that I thought I saw this morning, a plate wing, powerful motor ? And modern radio gear that twitches, what am I doing wrong ? I presume it has throttle control, sorry electric motor speed control, down thrust, side thrust, and it did glide ? I will stick with 27meg, 2 channel r and e, and a full chat paw 09 ( or Cox td09 ) on the front ! Only kidding but what do I know. And drones are a problem ?

How much room left in blind hole ? A plastic raw plug and long screw and sliding weight for a slider hammer perhaps ?

Safe storage of lipo batteries
Rich Griff replied to Stuart Eggerton's topic in Batteries and Chargers
Tesco recycle battery bins...any warnings on them I wonder, also council recycle sites ? -
I don't know this engine or the sizes involved, a picture would be good. You say races, so the bearing in question is a ball race bearing ? Grease method and close fitting shaft idea can and does work, application dependent. A hole so as to drift the outer race, again works, maybe the hole can then be tapped and a plug screwed in place ? You know iff raw plugs and similar, to act like a slide hammer or extractor perhaps ? A rear good clean down before bearing removal attempts is a must. Warmth is good for bearing removal as alloy expands at a different rate to the steel of the race. A cold spray can also help. Please post some pictures and parts exploded views 😀

CAA Operator Registration Renewal
Rich Griff replied to Dane Crosby's topic in All Things Model Flying
I am just going to wait until I am nearly ready to go fly, covid restriction dependent. I joined the bmfa just before Xmas and passed thebasic online Bmfa test. I have fixed wing powered A status gained years ago, and fixed wing silent slope soarer bronze award, A status again gained years ago. When I start model flying again I will class my self as a tyro, novice, but will advance quite rapidly. I of course will get the operaters number and flier number so will be legal. I will not fly unless I am legal. Here's hoping... Ps we should all realise if government has anything to do with it, it's gunna be a cockup! Edited By Rich Griff on 27/01/2021 12:08:08 -
Safe storage of lipo batteries
Rich Griff replied to Stuart Eggerton's topic in Batteries and Chargers
Holly Molly ! These things are everywhere these days ! Don't remember nicads doing that sort of thing. Good job I requested Bmfa sheets on lipo''s which should be with me any day now. Lipo''s can be laptop batteries, yes ? -
Hi levent, how did your bespoke fuel tank perform, any leaks ? Iwhat was its final weight, and was it lighter than a tin tank ?
-
Would you know the channel and time it's on telly please. The link just wants to load Google or summut on my phone which is a pita.

A simple classroom science class, completion with A4 sheet of paper in the form of a flying model. Far far far too complex for any teacher out there to do that !! Debate........

Can you identify this model aeroplane?
Rich Griff replied to PWLT's topic in All Things Model Flying
Came across mag article about the Hercules, you need a copy ? Over -
Yes, tx, not checked Rx yet. Wire replacement, needs must but if it has to be condemed, so be it. Looks as if s new tx on off switch is gunna b a pita to fit, still mulling that one over. Will start a thread about that, and an other Futaba set that seems dead. The tx carrier wave frequency is spot on with the crystal but no wave form shape change seen, not sure if modulation yet, model room not completely ready yet either.

Thanks KC for the comparability charts on Futaba USA. The top chart will not scroll right on my phone but hopefully will on the lads phone. The other chart does scrowl to the right ok. Will get the lad to print off the tables in work. Hopefully he's gunna pop the printed off spectrum manuals this evening.

Thanks for the replies. Yes this is for Futaba stuff so I can make a comparison, and then decide. Don't really need more than 5 channel really, throttle, elevator, rudder, aileron and possible flaps. I probably will never have retractable undercarriage, unless I have a lottery win, then cost will not matter, a "nice problem to have". I will/would need to get extra Rx,s so the smaller 2 and 3 channel planes can be flown via 2.4 gear. I don't not have an internet laptop or landline, internet is via an internet phone that I got in December 2020, so not had it long If internet is needed to update or set up radio tx, then laptop, virus protection, landline and internet provider will be needed, as well as the tx. All that is gunna be way over my means. Will go see Ripmax about Futaba stuff. They could not help with a new on/off switch for the 35meg challenger which has black corrosion and a dicky on,/off switch. I will start another thread about the challenger when the time comes. It may have to be condemed.
-
Yes, but no rush, so it's research research research for now. I have always used Futaba stuff as I find it good and I have quite a few Futaba servo "spare". I still have not made up my mind to go spectrum or Futaba, all boils down to money really. I am at least 25 miles from Llyn club Penrhos and carless at the moment, so as well as covid, find myself isolated. I have seen a challenger radio set for sale in here just like mine but the asking price is a bit too high, and although "new and never used" , is susceptible to/suffer from black wire corrosion. I won't really know untill it's purchased, but not guaranteed. A new set would be gauranteed.
-
Thanks for the reply. Yes, makes more sense to go for dedicated 4 channel aero system for the 2/3 channel models, and the 4 channel shadow. All the 27meg 2 channel stuff can go onto the slow speed electric boat/sailing models. These are much more sellable locally with no returns due to inexperienced buyers. I make model boats for this reason as the is a lake within walking distance and it helps fund my aero vice.
-
Is there a dedicated Futaba uk site, the site I get to keeps going to Futaba USA ? Need to compare Futaba to spectrum, tx and Rx and if spare/extra Rx are available and the costs. They do a reasonable price 2 channel and a slightly more expensive 4 channel which makes more sense, but would spare/extra Rx be available and what price. Need Futaba uk site really for part numbers etc..

Thanks for the replies. Yes, defo on a tight budget. The dx6 and dx6e would be lovely but would need a new house with a big big big hobby room for 250 models. A 5 model memory would be plenty for me, shadow 4 channel, 2 channel s/soarer, 2 channel powered glider( which should be 3 channel really so engine can be shut down ) and the/will be 3 channel found, leaving one "spare". Realistically a10model memory would be ab fab ! Yes I well remember non servo reversing days which made you think. I tend to like all the servo arms moving in the same direction of an output but sometimes that cannot happen. A note book for s/reversing and throw settings would surfice, but a model memory tx would be real lovely. I shall keep putting into the Radio gear jamjar...anyone want an RC boat ready to go, just add batteries or even just add radio and batteries ?
