  1. Hi Tim. Check the originals panel lines. I'm sure they didn't make one piece cowls for full size aircraft in 1918 ! I would also suggest access from underneath as that would be a "dirtier" area from a weathering point of view, so the hatch wouldn't be as obvious.
  2. Hmm. I vaguely remember a story about a scotsman and a spider. You're not contemplating mounting an attack on Chacksfield House are you BEB ?
  3. After you with the bucket Alan. I'm beginning to worry about Olly. By the way, Flying Models at Crossgates in Leeds is closed Wednsesday and Sunday. Don't know if any of the others are open all weekend.
  4. Shouldn't you be watching the aircraft, not the transmitter ? I'm sure someone out there will be able to disconnect the beeper and wire it to a louder device for you. I'm surprised there aren't any already being marketed. After all the vast majority of modellers are not exactly in the flush of youth.
  5. I think you're going to need some foam friendly CA and a couple of cocktail sticks to mend that one in time for tomorrow. You could also use the same method on the Spitfire ! I hope you are refering to the plane and not your daughter !!! Kevin b in constructive advisor capacity.
  6. How about Freecycle. Or trying local charity furniture stores. They do sell as well as recycle. We have one next door to my workshop. It's amazing what they get in and re-use, or sell on. Kevin b Financial care division
  7. Rock on Tim ! Let's get back to the airplanes (whoops). Anybody know where I can get a 10 metre buddy lead from ? I would like to learn to fly properly, but can't see the takeoffs properly having to stand downwind of the instructor. Kevin b Continental cuisine appreciation department.
  8. Yes, but which English ? That of the great writers. Shakespear, Byron, Pratchet ? Or modern parlance init ? Ya no wot a mean man ? Kevin b clock winding department.
  9. I'm with Barnseyboy on this one. Although there are many occasions when I smile or cringe whilst reading the posts. At least these members are trying to communicate other than by "Txt" or shouting at each other, as I seem to find is the modern way. Bet FF is a retired teacher, or civil servant.   Kevinb A lifetime of communicating with the British public dept Edited By Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 31/07/2012 21:46:22
  10. Evading tax is a bigger national pastime than ours. I mean for instance, how many M.P.'s do you know of who fly model aircraft ? There are 2 reasons for buying goods from off-shore. One is the total lack of availability locally, specialist components for instance. The other is to get them cheaper than through the local supplier. Factor in transport costs and you will find that the savings are pratically all down to tax, or lack of it. Yes, personaly I would like to deal with the tax people direct, but lets be honest. Are they going to want to deal with hundreds of thousands of importers a year, or the Post office at no cost to themselves ? Support your local model shop. They probably have a website and can post items to you as well. Plus they can communicate in english ! Our hobby has never been (relatively speaking) so cheap. Kevinb wind up department.
  11. Hi Olly. Check out the BMFA clubs list for North Yorkshire. There are a couple in the area. If they don't cater for you, then they might be able to give you some contacts. My local club, Nidderdale (must get around to joining) appear to have some slope flyers in their midst. However their flying site is very flat and is probably too far to the east of Ripon for you. Plenty of hills between Ripon and Scarborough though ! Regards. Kevin.
  12. Just seen this on ebay, which may be of interest. Item number 380445696957
  13. A Cessna with floats and living in Norway. Maybe your flying field is one of the "wetter" ones. I am not familiar with what kits are available to you, but I'm not sure sticking floats on a low wing aerobat is likely to work ( I also have very little flying experience ). However I do have a reasonable collection of plans stored digitally, including some float planes. If you want to have a go at building from plans I will be quite happy to email some to you.
  14. Must make note to check spelling and grammar when posting replies.
  15. Hmm. Low wing monoplane, with tall, narrow fuselage. Definitely not a radial. Wings look quite thin too, so possibly fixed u/c. Good it be a Miles Magister, or a Moth Minor ? I believe both were used as trainers by several airforces, so lots of scope for colour schemes. Ok, I'll go for the Moth Minor as it isn't quite as popular.
  16. Hi Steve. My local Hanson Timber stocks good quality 1.5mm Birch ply and can even supply down to 0.8mm. Downside is 1200 x 1200 sheets, but much cheaper than buying from shops. Unfortunately they don't do balsa.
  17. In answer to the original question. Lots of us !!! How else could a 16 year old aeromodeller get to the flying field ? Mind you, you were restricted a little on wingspan !
  18. Too many ! I decided a while ago to "stock up" on models ready for retirement (soon I hope), so I started going to auctions, boot sales, ebay etc. The result is approximately 14 aircraft, 9 boats (mainly rebuilds) and over 50 plastic kits. Apart from that I have aquired a large quantity of wood and other materials, not to mention over 1000 plans (not including internet bought plan CDs). All I need now is to retire and get on with them, but unfortunately life isn't like that and business commitments aren't giving me much time these days. Never mind. I shouldn't really be wishing my life away, but it would be nice to have more than one of them finished and flying !
  19. Sorry Erfolg, no ferrets, but I do live out in the country and there are a few weasels living next to my house (no joke). I am just getting back into the hobby after about a 30 year sebatical and have been to a few shows over the last 12 months or so. This one as far as I am concerned has been the most hyped, but appears to be the worst supported. Particularly by the industry and its press. if I were to give an opinion, I would say it needs a rethink as to what its purpose is. I would probably say lose the word "engineer" and badge it as a model crafts, or model making exhibition. It is a known fact that "model engineers" are generally considered to be not the most sociable or convivial of people and to be honest model engineering as a pure hobby is suffering a greater decline than a lot of other model making hobbies. It would also open up the appeal to other sections of the model making community. Model (dolls) houses and villages for instance. A wider appeal will bring in more vendors, which in turn brings in more customers.
  20. Went today (Friday) and I must say "What a pile of poo !". If it hadn't been for the model aircraft and the model truckers they could have held it in our local village hall. The biggest area was dedicated to the catering. I thoroughly enjoyed the effort put in by the Bury club and the LMA, who were trying to keep things professional. As were the truckers. The only model association presence was the BMFA. There was ample room for a boat pond, which I'm sure the lifeboat stand would have appreciated, as would the boat clubs who had a reasonable representation, but the biggest disapointment was the trade presence, or lack of. There was only one manufacturer / distributor exhibiting. The rest were small independant retailers whom I have seen at other, mainly boat shows, or car boot sales. There was little for the model boat fan and nothing for the model aircraft builder (not even ARTFs !!!). As this was billed as the northern equivalent to the Model Engineer Exhibition I think they may be liable under Advertising Standards. I may be from over the other side of the hill, but I think the organisers should go and have a look at the Harrogate Show to see how it is done. It is a bigger venue (2 halls) and is packed every year with stalls and clubs. The only problem with that show is the lack of aeromodelling support, which may be due to a lack of space. There certainly isn't room for any indoor flying ! Overall it was expensive (entrance £8.00, sarni £3.50, coffee £1.80) even for a generous Yorkshireman like me ! However I did enjoy some of it, including leaving with a big smile. I am nearer 60 than 50, But I was probably the youngest visitor in there - and I wasn't wearing an anorak or flat cap !
  21. Apparently these cells are currently only available though Father christmas. However I have heard that special deliveries can occasionally be made through his subsiduary, The Tooth Fairy. Personally I'm waiting for Brian Winch's test reports on a new low cost eco-friendly organic glo fuel formula recently given to him by a Mr Pratchett. I gather the residue smells of bananas.   Ook ?
  22. 1.    Model Shop Leeds 2.   Just Engines 3.    Sorry  No Experience 4.   Just Engines
  23. How about a different type of warbird ? A non U.K / American twin for instance.   Fiat BR20   Mitsubishi 100 Ki-46   Or even a triple ?   Cant Z1007
  24. 1. 55 years and ready for retiring. 2. I've started again after a 30 odd year gap, so I'm training  on R/C . I want to build some nice scale models, probably twin electrics. Not that I have anything against fossil fuel burners. I know there are still some people out there who like steam powered vehicles !!! (and horses). 3. I can't remember much about my early years due to a bump on the head when I was 9 years old. I do remember "helping " my dad build a Mercury Grebe glider in the 50s and also anything that I was bought that could fly. I do remember building control liners when I was 10 or 11 years old (ME Heron 1cc in a Keil Kraft Joker). By the time I got to 17 I was building a proportional controlled trainer. At 18 started playing guitar and discovered women - Downhill from there.
  25. How about    Aeroeasy spelt.      Aeroeasy                                              or         Aero-easy                                              or         Aero-easi You could use a Z instead of the s.
