  1. Martin, I notice that the p.t.o shaft where it connects to your tractor is unguarded. There should be a cover, or hood fitted. Maurice.
  2. Regarding the recent price increase I took a random copy from my pile, (Oct 2012) and counted the pages of advertisements including the classified which amounted to 42. Done the same to the April issue, 24. We have lost only 8 pages so you could say value for money is still there. One thing that came to notice is now ARTF aircraft are in the £300+ bracket, apart from the Wots, and need 20-30cc engines, high power HV servos etc. The old club 46 seems dead and buried.
  3. Just received my April mag. Getting to Europe takes some time but well worth the wait. For me the best read was Chris Golds flap write-up, very informative. We, or at least I , need more articles like this from Chris! Ripmax seemed a bit over- exposed this month, even if they did pay for three pages of ads. On my second reading of the mag. the cover came off. It happens every time. Please could you ask the printers to use larger staples.
  4. Now Hobby King's site seems to have bedded down I find it quite acceptable to use.Staying over in the U.K. last week, an half hour's drive from their Elmsett store, I ordered in the evening and collected the next morning. I realise that you are somewhat restricted in what's available but it was enough to keep me happy. In contrast, I rang two LHS, (not so local as they were an hour and a half away) regarding an ARTF to bring home, which their website showed in stock, to be told, after much rummaging that they were out of stock, next delivery expected in a couple of month's time. Will they ever learn?
  5. Yes! It works now Shaunie. This forum is worth it's weight in gold. Many thanks.
  6. I must be doing something wrong Denis because all I can get is a bleep from the trainer switch but no count-down starting.
  7. At the moment I'm not in the same place as my DX8 so had to dig out my old DX7 to keep flying. I want to set up the flight timer, which I have done, but can find no way to activate it. The manual does not want to 'bind' with my brain. I need help please!
  8. Coming in to land at Stansted in the middle of Storm Doris we had to abort as everything, including the 737 got a bit pear shaped. Hairy, but not scary although several passengers quickly communicated with their creator. The worst part was the divert to East Midlands where it seems every aircraft was being sent to as the wind was in line with the runway
  9. I notice that Mike Freeman in his review of the DX6e gives the modulation as DSMX/DSM2. Model World, to their credit, posted a notification in the March issue stating that all Spektrum transmitters sold since 2015, do NOT support DSM2. Well done them for pointing it out in print.
  10. Here in Spain, as I understand it, you can only generate solar electric power for your own use if you cannot be connected to the main grid. If you do so, you will have to pay a solar panel tax that will cripple you cash wise or the alternative is a fine not exceeding 63 million euro's. Yes, you did read that right! So much for green energy in the E.U.
  11. Must agree with Steve B. One would think that the reason they are in the retail hobby shop business is to earn a living. If you are outside the U. K. in most cases they do not want to know. However, Balsa Cabin deserves a pat on the back for their excellent service. Perhaps someone could compile a list of those who deal beyond the shores of Britain.
  12. Please DO NOT remove the radius on the prop shaft. It's purpose is to blend in the change of section. Be guided by those that tell you to counter-sink the prop.
  13. What we are trying to do when we dial in exponential is to convert rotary movement into linear movement. This begs the question, why do we use rotary servos? Is there a company that still makes the old linear servo that was once the norm? After all, the indoor flyers are using them. All that is needed is to up the scale.
  14. What I cannot fathom out, is with the foul U.K.flying weather and the $ v £ exchange rate you are concerned about H. K.'s cock up. You don't need them.
  15. Posted by Peter Miller on 05/11/2016 10:54:23: Colin. Yes, there is my standard 2 degrees of washout. Ithas worked perfectly on five model with ellitical wings so far. The wing is designed on Compufoil and is created to the "That looks about right" method. In fact I used the jezebel wing and stretched it here and there to get the size I wanted.. In passing, When Mitchell was asked by his staff what shape the wing should be his answer was "I don't care what shape it is so long as we can get the guns in." so the elliptical wing credit goes to someone else. L.P.Pete Well there are a lot of 40 Surpasses around still and not too expensive. SC do a .52 which is a great engine. Mass build? Somehow I don't think that there are enough masochists around for that but you never know, modellers do tend to be masochistic at times, Peter, You are quite right when you say that the credit for the spitfire wing belongs to someone else. His name was Beverley Shenstone,1906-1979, a Canadian who was part of R.G,s design team. But, I expect that you already knew that Peter.
  16. Hi John, The very same thing happened to me over the w/end. Found I was locked out following several p/word tries so I followed Alex Whittaker's advice which is " If at first you don't succeed, walk away lad, walk away". The next day I used the last p/word they sent and logged in first go. Could well have been a site problem.
  17. When I first saw this on latest forum news I thought that someone was going to mention that bicycle lights make good landing lights for model aircraft. Am I on the right forum?
  18. Following the demise of my Fusion Eclipse the Overlander D100 reviewed by the Ed. seemed perfect for my needs. However, living in Spain does not have it's advantages if you wish to purchase from a U.K. dealer. The postage that they quote is out of this world, or, at least mine. A browse on the net found me the D100 with it's correct makers name on it, postage free and for pounds, read euro's! The charger. In a word, brilliant. Dual charging allows me to charge two four cell 5 amp packs, so half the time spent hovering over the charger. It also charges the packs to their maximum voltage balanced, something the eclipse could never do. The I.R. facility on it has allowed me to grade my batteries so I can now adjust my flying time to the pack being used. A couple of them are for the chop, but then I suspected that, but it's nice to have confirmation of it. I am very, very pleased with my purchase.
  19. Many thanks Percy and PatMc for responding. I have looked up" outrunners in a can" and they are just what I need. The internal diameter of the fuselage is 40 m/m tapering out. Will be in the U.K. in a few days time (1/2 hours drive to HK warehouse) so will be able to collect my needs. Well done forum!
  20. Having a tidy-up in the workshop/shed today I uncovered a NIB Ripmax Sirius 2m motor glider. As is, it is kitted out with a 600 brushed motor, no doubt the reason it was poked away into a far corner in the first place. Now, to convert to a brushless set-up, can anyone help me with what I need as regards size, in or out runner, prop, cell count and capacity etc. Any useful info will be very much appreciated.
  21. Sunday, 21st Feb. at a model flying site in Spain. The helicopter boys turned up in force. Usually there are a couple of copters but they out-numbered the fixed wings today, some NIB and one chappie with a new set of carbon fibre blades on his model. No idea what make it was but it had a rotor diameter of about a metre. Out to the runway with it for a run-up and power check for, I presumed a lift off. As I was inspecting my friends new S/H model at the time this, to me, was something that was happening in the background until, with this copter winding up, the blades let go with what"s best described as an explosive twump! One blade headed off up the runway but the other came through the pits at gut height passing me by about a foot into the car park where it struck, would you believe, the boot of the copter owners car. When I recovered my senses I recovered the "bling" blade for inspection and found that the blade had sheared off at the mounting hole. No sign of carbon fibre, just a greeny cream resin. Where, you may ask, was carbon fibre then? It was printed on the plastic shrink wrap that covered the blade! Next time I hear or see a copter run up I will take cover in my truck as I have no intention of being maimed, or killed, by fake carbon.
  22. Hello Dave H. Please post make of batteries you use. I need to know. For the record I balance charge at 1c, never discharge below 3.6v and still they die. Possibly due to high internal resistance build-up but NOT my misuse.
  23. Hi Tom, I have been electric for the last ten years, for the same reason you want to change. Steve has the right thoughts on going electric. It can turn out to be very expensive if you go over a 40-46 size. Batteries are the problem, charging them the night before, rain on fly day, discharge to store etc. The need to have at least four of them if you want a decent flying session. Also remember if you are into aerobatics your flight times will be reduced. Expect a life span of no more than fifty charges, if you are lucky, before a rogue cell shows up. Do not spend mega-bucks on them as they will all die on you just by sitting on the shelve. Sounds all gloom I know, but at least you have a clean model to pop back into the car. Far, far better to buy something like a H.H. Meridian with a 10cc PETROL engine. My amigo here in Spain has one and I envy him every time he flies it. The time is coming when I will say I've had enough of batteries but I do enjoy flying electric! Edited By Pete B - Moderator on 20/02/2016 21:24:28
  24. Scanning back through the Dec RCM&E I re-read, as one does, the review of the H.H. E-flite Mystique soarer, by our Ass. Ed. David said that for the ailerons he used Spektrum A7020 high voltage servos. According to the Spektrum web-site the A7030 is the HV, not the 7020. Just thought I would bring this to notice. Come to think of it, when Spektrum bought out their first 2.4gig receiver (AR7000) it was, and still is, safe to 9.6v they missed a gigantic sales opportunity by not making the servos to the same voltage. Receiver and servos would then have been 2s lipo safe. Other manufacturers would have had to follow suit, or be left behind. I know the 821 servo is a JR re-labelled job but they should have gone all the way. All they need to do now is make a standard size servo based on their indoor flight linear servos. No more blow-back!
  25. Still waiting for my replacement copy (Dec issue). If I say to hell with the mail service and buy it online will I still be able to pass it on to my spanish clubmates?
