James40
In standard form the motor and fan are quite noisy, not sure it it would break the noise limit though? Had a few flights on mine now, performance is fantastic on a 6S 4000mAh pack, such an easy plane to fly if you want to keep it sensible, in fact, close the throttle and it will almost float horizontally to the ground. With the gyro fitted in the nose it is possible to hold it in an almost hover, given a nice breeze and it would hover nicely! The gear hold up well on the electric retracts and landing is quite easy, she will come in at quite a high angle of attack using the throttle for a slow landing or at normal speeds and flare last minute but it needs more field to land like that. Thomas Barwick
How have the servos held up as have heard some dodgy things about them. In the process of adding green mfds and light up buttonds and a light up hud. ( and of cource replacing that pilot).
Thomas Barwick
Finished the cockpit now going out this afternoon to give it a test flight.
James40
Looks really good Thomas, have you flow it in the evening yet or in low light?
Thomas Barwick
no my grass is too long at the minute had 3 aborted take-offs,just doesnt pick up enough airspeed, now looking around for tarmac so i can finally get it airbourne.
James40
Some guys have fitted a longer nose leg to help launching off grass, that may be an option for you? Are you using the vectored thrust?
Thomas Barwick
yeh i am using the vectored thrust. I think i just need a smoother surface, and good weather
James40
Hand launch is always an option on this one, it has more than enough static thrust and very easy to grip.
Thomas Barwick
Yeh thats just dont want something to be majorly out of trim and it crash or get cuahgt out by the thrust vector as its my first tv jet :s
James40
Ah ok, I didn't realise this was the maiden! They do tend to stick to the ground on take off roll then leap into the sky! Have you read the huge thread on rc groups on this airframe, it tells you how to set the foreplanes up correctly etc to make takeoff easier. Thomas Barwick
the thread is long and i thought i had read something somewhere but i cant seem to find the post with he suggestion
James40
Well from memory, put a needle in the join line on the forward fuselage to the rear of the foreplanes and line up the trailing edge of the foreplanes with that needle. That should give the foreplanes a slight nose up attitude, if it doesn't then it may be the leading edge that was aligned with the pin, which ever way gives the nose up setting to the foreplanes. That setting was found to give a nicer take off and nicer flight characteristics.
