ericrw
I'm wanting to fit a wooden prop to my Electric foam 74" wing span Cessna. At the moment it is fitted with a 14x7 electric apc prop, as per the stock set-up. Is this realistic and if so, would it be the same size as the original ? Eric. Garry Pollard
Might be talking out of the back of my head as usual, but is it safe to put anything except and elec prop on an elec motor? I would be interested to know Garry
Eck
Hi Garry, Ive successfully used I.C. props on electric motors on my Wot Trainer (16x8). What you mustn't do is use an E-prop on an I.C. motor. The blade roots are thinner and can't handle the power "pulses" you get with I.C. Garry Pollard
Knew there was some restriction but wasnt sure what it was. When I go to my LMS and he is out of stock of elec props he always says you shouldnt use anything but elec props on elec motors but when asked why the answer is "I dont know" very reassuring. I dont think he is an expert and would rather get my info here. Garry
Danny Fenton
Hi Garry, I have also used standard IC props, usually wooden ones on electric motors without any problems. However I would say they are usually noisier and less efficient than the electric versions, which can be much thinner. Make sure you check the balance, and avoid the really heavy nylon jobs. Cheers Danny
Frank Skilbeck
Eric I used a wooden 13 x 6 prop on my E Flite Beaver for a while, no problems, the specific electric props being thinner than the IC equivalent may be a few % more efficient thats all. BTW Turnigy do a range of wooden props specifically for electric motors, maybe you could have the best of both worlds
