Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Hi, I need to make a 2mm thick grp control horn for my Extra. I can get pcb board easily - but thats copper plated on one side Anyone got any idea where I could buy a piece of plain 2mm thick grp board? PatMc
Just scrape off the copper. Alternately cut the horn from the pcb, immerse it in some ferric chloride solution for 20 mins or so until the copper has dissolved then wash it with plain water. Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Yeah, I thought of doing that - but I suppose I'm being lazy and just wondered if someone just sold straight forward grp board. After all lots of kits come with laser cut grp horns etc. I did think I had some - in fact I know I have some, left over from another build. But can I find it, can I hell! That's the problem with the "I'll keep that it might come in handy one day" philosophy - its fine as long as you are really well organised! I'm not! Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
OK panic over! Ebay has come up trumps. Seems the model car lads use the stuff to make chasis plates! Thanks anyway PatMc! BEB
PatMc
I always salvage bits of pcb from any redundant electronic gizmos for this very purpose. The copper lands usually peel of quite easily with a bit of patience & the board cleans up when lightly rubbed over with a file. Some electronic supply shops do keep blank epoxy board but it's very expensive. BEB, I type is slower than you. Wingman
Galaxy models do that sort of stuff here Edited By Wingman on 19/07/2011 07:32:
Bob Cotsford
or just leave as is and polish the copper, looks neat once laqueredAs you want 2mm thick, epoxy two pieces back to back to make up the thicknes, so it's got a shiny copper finish both sides Edited By Bob Cotsford on 19/07/2011 09:06:
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I like the idea of polishing the copper - the problem is its just one control horn - now next time the idea of tricking the whole model out like that is tempting! In the meantime I'll live with this "plain vanilla" grp I've got hold of on ebay BEB

Reno Racer
You could also use Mick Reeves. His GRP PRO-SKIN sheeting is pretty cheap for a good size roll see here , its about 2/3 of the way down the page after the beautiful looking Lightning. He has different thicknesses and I've used to to both skin with and sandwiched a few sheets together to make undercarriage doors. Its very stiff and supersmooth, so ready to take paint.
