The paper tube is there to allow easy passage of the servo wiring, Frazer. Just roll a strip of A4 (or longer if needed) into a tube (a couple of turns will do), roll it until it is tight enough to go through the holes in the ribs, insert it and release.

It will expand to form a tube, which makes life much easier. Have you seen the build pics by Peter Miller here?

Stephen,

The Tailwind is suitable for an IC motor of 0.20 to 0.25 cu.in

I reckon that a 0.46 IC engine equates roughly to 750W. On that basis the Tailwind should be quite happy with 400W.

As a rule of thumb for each pound weight, 100W will give a good performance. Peter Miller states the weight of the Tailwind as 66oz. = 4.125 lb. At 100W/lb this gives 412W.

So whichever way I come back to 400W being about right.

Now, I have built Lindsay Todd' Zulu ET which is also 48" wingspan. The motor I have used is the Emax BL 2815/09 with a 40A ESC driving an 11x7 APCe prop. The battery is 2200mAh 20C 3S.

For the motor/ESC look here.

This is just one possibility, others may have alternative suggestions.

Hope that helps, GDB
