Removing old fuel stains

I have a previously loved model which is only spoilt by the fuel stains on the airframe. The covering is painted solartex and the stains are very well established. I will probably repaint the model but I would like to remove as much of the oily stains as possible before I do. I have tried meths and a general surface cleaner but with little effect. I would be grateful for any suggestions that I could try.

You asked for " any suggestions " ........the quick cure is to fly electric!

Seriously, try a bit of Cif ( was Jif ) kitchen cleaner which is a very fine abrasive in some liquid ( dried out Cif is good for use as an abrasive on a leather strop to sharpen tools too) maybe quite like TCut but I wouldnt use Cif on my car. Maybe try a scrubbing brush with detergent on the worst part. Possibly if that doesnt work a bit of methanol fuel might move it but perhaps it has already softened the paint.
