Phil 9
I fancy adding some lights to my model but it has foam wings. if I just cut a slot along the wing for the cable will this weaken the structure too much?
John F
Is it foam core with balsa skin? One idea you could try is the dolls house copper tape they use to wire houses. It's two flat wires on a sticky backing. Saves cutting up the wing.

Phil Green
This was asked a few days ago - easiest way is to use dolls-house wiring tape. Its thin, self adhesive tinned-copper tape that you can apply to the surface without cutting into anything. Good for lights, aileron or flap servos etc. Looks like trim-tape. **LINK** Edited By Phil Green on 29/03/2014 09:04:
Phil 9
my plan was to use a Brain Cube lighting set It is all pre wired so it I may need to bury the wires if I just cut a slit and pushed in the wires then run a glue filler mix over the cut will it be strong enough? stu knowles
I don't think that a slit or slot along the grain of the veneer will make any appreciable difference to the strength of the wing. Cutting across grain will definately produce a weak spot.. The top surface is usually in compression. If it were mine I would go for it. stu k
Phil 9
having another look I saw I would need to cut quite a large square notch near the root to mount the light. I don't think I can risk it. would not be a problem on a built up wing
john stones 1 - Moderator
Hello Phil we cut holes in foam wings for servo's and cut a channel out for the wires as long as you do a proper job of it, it wont be a problem
