john stones 1 - Moderator
I should have known because I measured up to fit, just though ooooh when I opened box No connectors on these, keep getting caught out with this lecky stuff, I was worried about it being tail heavy, not now. Will have some I.C therapy when these two are done. John
john stones 1 - Moderator
A bit more done today, nearly there I loose fitted motor after making a new mount, left a bit more meat on it. Captive nuts are a bit over the top, that's what happens when you do 2 models at once. Will notch ali to get spar in for sheeting. Marked up for front former, leaving mine open...no grill, just incase motors wrong. Fitted wing plate it looks cockeyed on photo, but its not. 2 bolts on mine
john stones 1 - Moderator
Just a bit more done Block added for pylon support and servo trays made, glued wheels up, hub and bush next then I can spoke them and make tyres. Its nose heavy John
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
That motor looks just a tad shorter than mine John - but its an important tad. I ended up having to "relieve" F1 to get the front of the can passed it! Looking good mate - not far to go now. BEB
john stones 1 - Moderator
Thanks BEB It just goes if I use a 1/8 spar, bit of luck comes in handy John

Chris Barlow
Looking forward to these wheels! I.ve often fancied making bespoke wheels (pun)
john stones 1 - Moderator
They will be basic Chris just 4 spokes John
john stones 1 - Moderator
Slow going but nearly there, balsa sheet added to front former, then I sanded it up, then I had to go buy a sheet, not done bad only second one I have bought on 3 builds picked some hinges up as well I use Kavan good quality, no point skimping on fittings, models only as good as its weakest link. john stones 1 - Moderator
And a bit more, sheeted rear of fuzz in one piece, wet outside and it curved lovely made some wingtip strengtheners out of 1/16 ply, curved these round a jar, a smidge heavier but much stronger. Who says you cant sand PVA, it looks good to me John
john stones 1 - Moderator
Last few picy's, I wanted a look see. Last bits of sheeting tonight, then start fitting radio tomorrow. John
john stones 1 - Moderator
Only done ply wingtips today, turned out I only used one strip instead of both, nice and strong John
Phil Winks
not having looked closely at that section of the plan is that some wash out I see there or is it just an optical illusion caused by the tip capping strips not yet been profiled
john stones 1 - Moderator
It looks like it on photo Phil No washout, just camera playing tricks because its above and behind. And I checked just in case John
Phil Winks
thought that might be the case, Not that wash out is a major issue, as long as its the same on both wings, now wash in well trouble would be a brewing Phil
john stones 1 - Moderator
Thinking maybe put a ply surround on cockpit area, either stain or cover in silver or ali tape, it just seems a bit delicate for my clumsy fingers. What you think ? Weight with rx 4 servo's, U/c and wing covering to go is 1lb 12 oz. John
john stones 1 - Moderator
Little bit more done, very slow going though a couple of hours work would see it done, so its no more flying till I do it tail skid added front sheeting done. will be under 2 1/2 lb
Colin Leighfield
Well worth waiting for, what a nice design by Lindsay.
Devcon1
John, It's looking good, the ply cockpit surround could look great and give some contrast to the balsa. Regards John M
john stones 1 - Moderator
Cheers lads Surround is tricky to glue on. I don't want to use cyano because of staining issue. I am doing all fiddly bits now so will post them together. John
john stones 1 - Moderator
Started my wheels it's a vintage style bush will be brass tube with a washer soldered on, don't know whether to bother with tyres John
Phil Winks
Hi John this is coming on nicely if your looking for tyre material have a gander at this stuff use neoprene for soft tyres and nitrile for hard tyres both join easily with cyano and it won't break the bank either Phil
john stones 1 - Moderator
Thanks Phil I can't view link mate it wont load John
Phil Winks
Lets try again Just here and if that doesn't work just do an Ebay serch for "neoprene / nitrile cord" expanded neprene is the stuff you need for soft tyres though the nitrile makes great hard period tyres Phil edit tested link and it works this time Edited By Phil Winks on 23/05/2014 22:29:
