john melia 1
Can anyone help with this engine, its a super tigre 61 as far as i can make out. I've looked at the carb high needle assembly and it looks a bit weird to me, are they supposed to look like this
Jimbo565
John Thats the way it is, its an older engine and those needles are quite difficult to come by at present, I have known them to made from bicycle spokes. the newer engines have a main needle just like the low end one. Engine Doctor
Just to second that . Those needles are now unobtainable unless your very lucky to find some in old stock tucked away somewhere. The newer carb is a straight swap but probably costs more than the engine is worth. On your pic of the fuel inlet to the carb , it appears to be set up wrong. Try running it and if it idles and picks up ok then leave it; but if idling is a problem the loosen the two black screws slightly and turn the brass unit so that the inlet nipple (where the fuel tube pushes on) points at the front mounting hole on the crankcase. Bob Cotsford
It's an S series ST, the S61 I had ran and throttled ok but not exceptional power-wise. The brass thimble nut over the needle is like a gland nut on a tap, it adjusts the tension on the needle.

john stones 1 - Moderator
Give it a whirl John, Super Tigre usually reliable, may be a bit throaty though. John
Hangar 9 nut
Try Dave at Motors and Rotors he used to import ST's and he still has some old stock !
Jimbo565
Put the needle on ebay, make a fortune
Shaunie
I had one of these (still got it, awaiting restoration) which I ran in a Masterline Vandal with a tuned pipe. It went like a scalded cat (by late 80s early 90s standards anyway). Throttled beautifully, you can alter the transition from idle to power by turning the brass spray bar assembly. This is flattened slightly if you look through the venturi and has a slit jet in the bottom (you will only see this with the carb off). That should give you an idea if it's fitted correctly. Shaunie.
