70mm Electric ducted fan

Steve, you just need to do a Google search for 70mm EDF jets and you'll see the typical size that a 70mm fan can fly. 6Lbs (2.7Kg) is heck of a strech and I would say that it might take up a glider of that weight, but I'm not 100% sure as EDFs are infamously inefficient. With EDF the key word is lightness and the most powerful of the famed Wemotec 70mm units only produces 3.9Lbs force with a 6s battery. More thrust than that and you need to step up to 90mm and 8-12s LiPo. As a rough guide perhaps, I have two Wemotec powered 70mm jets on 4s and the heaviest is 1.3Kg and it flies in a very sedate manner. The other is just under 1Kg and its speed is in another league, much more jet like.

Stephen

There are 70mm EDFs and there are 70mm EDFs!

A look through the EDFs on say the Hobby King site will give you an idea of the sort of range.

For instance the Dr Mad 70mm is rated at 1900W on a 6s and delivers 2kg (4.4 lbs )thrust. It would have no difficulty with a 6lb plane.

Its a bit chicken and egg.

Maybe find a plane that you like and see what EDF/battery combination is recommended.
