Geoff S
I haven't flown my Zenoah powered Maher's Thunderbird for about 18 months and it's about time it had an airing (I had a year off aeromodelling last year). I have a little mixed fuel left but I used up last of my oil and didn't keep the bottle so I can't remember exactly what I used. I'm almost sure it was fully synthetic Silkolene competition 2 stroke oil which I mixed at 50:1. I want to continue mixing at 50:1 so that the car setting remains the same (more oil will mean less petrol/cc and a weaker mixture). Can regular Zenoah users confirm that what I need is Silkolene Comp 2 synthetic ester based motor cycle oil? The Silkolene plant used to be a couple of miles from my home until it was sold to Fuchs and my wife worked there for a time. thanks Geoff
john stones 1 - Moderator
I use any good quality motorcycle or outboard motor oil Geoff, I try to stick to the same one but don't worry if I occasionally have to use another. John

Bob Cotsford
I'm using the Castrol 2T in my Evolution petrols, but find it leaves a black oil residue that is hard to clean off (running in at 30:1). Do any oil brands leave an easier to clean residue? I noticed it first on my Evolution 10cc petrol but as that runs 20:1 I just accepted that it would produce a bit of muck, however the 35 exhaust sludge is really sticky and takes some cleaning. Bob Cotsford
thanks John, why didn't I think of that? Too used to glow engines and Mr Muscle I guess.
Geoff S
Thanks for the suggestions, gentlemen. I think I may try the Stihl oil but the semi-synthetic rather than the all mineral version. if I can't locate an easy source for Silkolene.
