MattyB
Anyone else struggling to download the latest e-copy of RCM&E on their iDevice? I got the notification ping up on my iPad and went to take a look at the new edition last night, but download is painfully slow - despite my broadband being approximately 32mb/s it is only downloading a page every few mins, and that only happens when the app itself is open (i.e. if I do something else on the iPad while I wait the download stops)! Previously when downloading a new copy there might have been a second or two delay for each page on the first read, but this is a whole different ballgame. Anyone else have this issue? The only difference since I pulled down the last edition is that I upgraded the device to iOS9 - I wonder if there is a compatibility issue at work here... Don Fry
Mine also took a couple of hours. I have also upgraded to 9. Doesn't normally take long on my country bumpkin speed connection.
MattyB
Thanks Donald, it's useful to know it is not just an issue affecting one user. I have just sent an email to PocketMags using the embedded feedback option in the app, so hopefully they will look into this.
John Lee
Yep, trouble here also. I've got very fast optical cable broadband, the first 22 pages uploaded almost instantly, but it then ground to a virtual halt. I'm also using OS9.0.1. MattyB
OK, sounds like a pattern emerging - perhaps one of the RCM&E team can raise it with PocketMags...
NormB
Took nearly 2 hours downloading to my desktop PC and that's running Windows 10 (of which I am NOT a fan) ! Average broadband speeds here, and it's usually acceptable performance with PocketMags. Norm
Chris-J
Hi guys - might be their UK server, Nexus 7 Android in France and it downloaded in less than 5 mins over WiFi. CJ
Beth Ashby Moderator
Thanks all for the info, I sent an email to our tech guys this afternoon, so I'll let you know when I have an answer/solution. Beth
IanR
Using an iPad Air (version 1) with OS 9.0.2 downloaded "normally" - I didn't notice any slowing down at all. Perhaps the slow downloaders should check for an OS update. I downloaded an update, yesterday, but didn't note what version no. I was downloading. I have just checked, though, and it says 9.0.2. Just a thought. Ian

MattyB
New issue, same story as last month I'm afraid... Anyone else got the same problem?
John Lee
Yes Matt me too. The app downloaded 6% yesterday and stopped. Today it added another 5% before stopping again. In contrast I downloaded from the digital archive on this site the complete issue in 6 seconds.
Don Fry
I have been in touch with pocket mags. There is a problem with IOS 9. A fix is coming. Their suggested workaround was to download the pocketmag app, restore purchases, Seemed to work for me.
Essjay
Sorry to bring this up again, but I've been downloding the latest mag on my ipad air2, and it's just reached 92% after 12 hours, and that's after re-downloading the app and restoring purchses. Any news on a fix yet?
MattyB
Update - Deleted and re-downloaded the RCM&E app (a cut down version of the Pocketmags app) as recommended above; no difference, download speed still very slow. Then downloaded the full Pocketmags app as an experiment; seemed to download the latest RCM&E very quickly, though the free edition of Empire magazine it offered me for registering a new account did not come down the same speed. Who knows; I certainly don't understand it! Edited By MattyB on 01/11/2015 00:44:
Beth Ashby Moderator
I've just heard back from PocketMags and they have said that it could be an iOS 9 problem. Although they do run updates on all the apps it could take a while to be approved on App Store. In the mean time, the best thing to do is to either download the pocket mags app or use the HTML 5 reader on their website here.
