Tony Kenny
I've got a couple of motors with bent shafts, tried to straighten them, but that's mission impossible. Despite lots of searching, I've not found anywhere to buy replacements shafts only. Are they usually available and I'm just not looking in the right places? Keith Berriman
Motor make and size or model that motor came out of would give us a better guide to guide you
Martin Harris - Moderator
Do you have a mate with a lathe? You (he) might be able to get the shaft straight with the aid of a dial test indicator...
John Rudd
Rather than wasting time trying to straighten a bent shaft, just make a new one..... Get some silver steel of the appropriate diameter, sources ebay for one, or Macc models ( google ) Securing flats can be added with a small file....and the groove can be cut on a lathe with a piece of broken hacksaw blade appropriately shaped....( if you have a mate with a lathe..  Edited By John Rudd on 29/12/2017 11:12:
onetenor
Just a dremel and a steady hand will make a groove . Hold the steel in the Dremel held in a cushioned vice. steady your hands by resting them on the vice top.As Alexander says S'//(..... Stuphedd
Do what John Rudd has suggested , !! you know it makes sense ! not expensive and you will have some left over for next time . cheers PS if you can avoid cutting circlip grooves in the shaft it will eliminate a stress raiser , If there is room use a collet instead ! gliggsy
LMS, get the relevant size piano wire and make your own, a Dremel helps as piano wire is too hard to cut with hacksaw.g
Martin Harris - Moderator
Unfortunately, all the "piano wire" I've bought over the past decade or two has cut fairly easily with a hacksaw! I'd use silver steel by preference as it is accurately ground to size.
