Glyn44
Hi all, I was talking to a guy yesterday (non flyer) who told me he remembered his Dad taking him to a model show some 30, or so, years ago. There was a modelling demonstration going on and he saw the modeller covering a plane by lifting a skin off of a liquid, and carefully laying it over the model, where presumably it dried into a covering film. I cannot imagine what this could have been. Anyone enlighten me. Happy new year to everyone.
Peter Miller
That was microfilm for indoor models Basically a coat of dope with out the tissue You pour the liquid over the water and let it dry then lift it out with a wire frame and apply to the model Edited By Peter Miller on 31/12/2017 08:35:

Glyn44
Yes I forgot to say it was an indoor model. Well I have to say it’s a new one on me. Probably the last thing I’ll learn this year! Thanks guys
Robin Colbourne
There's a video of pouring microfilm and getting it off the water here. Turn the sound down though, the 'music' is terrible:

Robin Colbourne
Glyn, you're welcome! Years ago, I built a Gym Dandy ROG, an 18" single surface indoor/outdoor model with a Sleek Streek prop. It was a great model that flew really well, but I got so fed up with the tissue splitting every time the wing flexed, which it did a lot, that in the end I recovered it with clingfilm/saran wrap/stretch n' seal stuck on with Evostick contact adhesive. This Gym Dandy ROG is from Outerzone. Edited By Robin Colbourne on 31/12/2017 13:49:
