adrian garnham
I am a new member and this is my first post !! This build log and your craftsmanship is second to none , I am about to purchase the harvard plan from Tony Nijhaus designs. Can you tell me what electric setup you have used and what retracts you ended up purchasing ?

Geoff Gardiner
Thanks gents. Nearly there! I am fitting all the electric gubbins now. I am using a failover switch for (LiFe) battery redundancy on the receiver. I needed to make a mount, using my 3D printer, so that it will fit in the battery compartment : Welcome to the forum Adrian. I will detail my electric setup in my next post. More later. Geoff... No issues Geoff. I’m no where near ready to print them. But thanks I did receive them! Your build log is a good reference for me. It’s been invaluable to double check what I am doing. Geoff Gardiner
Bit more done today: Fixed the wasp engine onto its mounts Next, the bit I've been dreading - test the CofG... Having moved the ESC and receiver batteries as far forward as they could go, it needed 120g of stick on weights to achieve the required CofG. As feared, it has come out a tad on the heavy side - 4.5kg including the flight battery. The last thing to do is test the power and select a suitable prop. More later. Geoff... Douglas Groutage
Use a 6S a little heavier? The pilot needs to gain weight? How much will the prop increase the leverage of CoG? Doug
Geoff Gardiner
Power testing today: 14x8 prop gives 1700W & 90A 13x8 prop gives 1550W & 83A 12x8 prop gives 1250W & 65A These readings were at max throttle. More later...
Geoff Gardiner
All props in my previous post were APC props Tested a couple more props today: 13x7 JXF (I think this might be an i.c. prop) 1180W & 60A 13x8.5 Master Airscrew Electric 1500W & 78A

SR 71
very nice Geoff, what make is the switch you used, Power Box
adrian garnham
Looks great. If mine turns out half as good I'll be well chuffed. All the wood and electrical stuff has arrived just waiting for the plans .... BTW what prop have you decided on ?
Geoff Gardiner
Thanks gents. SR71 - The switch is the Hobbyking version (failover switch), similar to the Power Box one. Adrian - Jury still out on that. I want to get hold of a 13x6 to test before I decide.
