Andy J
Would any know what airfoil Miles used for the Sparrowhawk?
Ray Wood 4
Hi Andy, I can't find any reference to a recognised Aerofoil section used by Miles, but to say the Sparrowhawk wings were the outer panels of the Hawk Major M2F minus the centre section. The Dennis Bryant plan would help ? Regards Ray
Andy J
Got a Phillip Kent plan, which suggests from measurements taken off the plan that the center section is a NACA0018 going down to a NACA0013 at the tip but just wanted to check that this was true to scale. Don Fry
I think a Sparrowhark predates NACA airfoils by a few decades. Guess, it's an RAF airfoil.
cymaz
After a quick read on the web, it’s seems it was pieced together from about 5 different aircraft. Though, it’s late so my ability to retain info has dramatically decreased
Peter Miller
Here is a website that gives you thousands of aircraft airfoils. It doesn not have the Sparrowhawk but a lot of other Miles designs. You just get the name of the root and tip airfoils and then have to find your own drawings. **LINK**
Don Fry
Thank you for that Peter. I had no idea NACA airfoils had been about for so long.
Andy J
Thanks to all, will have to read up on the history of the sparrowhawk and see if Peters site can help at all as Ray suggested the wing design came from a Hawk Major. Ray Wood 4
Hi Andy, Hope this is readable? From The Book of Miles Aircraft 1943, If you would like it scanned properly and emailed after Christmas from my office let me know? Andy J
Thanks Ray Have seen the outline specs before but not the construction methods Miles used. Are there any pictures of his construction methods in your book? Andy
