Why is it that a significant number of transmitter topics that have nothing to do with OpenTx or the radios that use it end up as discussions of the merits or otherwise of OpenTx?

Probably because, unlike other computer transmitters, it's not manufacturer specific and is used by several manufacturers of hardware?

Geof, I was refering the 'Set up' that has to be done as part of the plug and go. If you buy a Spectrum for instance you can take it out of the box, bind it and straight away you have contol. Albeit that you then tweak the controls.

What I was asking , and that seems to have been rather bypassed until we got to the latter statements, what has to be done in order to commission the TX. I have watched only one Utube so far , 'For beginnners', there appears to be far more set of 'Technical' procedeures that have to be carried out to get to base 1.

I am sure this subject could go on for ever!!!!

I will endeavor to watch some more Utube.

And so it is with OpenTX. Admittedly it's a long time since I fired up a virgin transmitter but iirc by default you get 4 channels driven by the 4 stick movements. The difference comes in how you add extra rates, reverse a servo set end limits (aka ATV), add a switch or slider for extra channels. With eg Spektrum or Futaba you pick a menu eg 'Rates', with OpenTX (and I understand Multiplex) you add an extra line to the stick input. It's just a different way of doing things.
