martin collins 1
My DB 60 Cirrus moth is now done bar the painting and has been put away until we get a warm windless day to spray it (may have to wait some time looking at the forecast!) so i have slipped in a quick build before my main winter build commences. This is a Chris Golds KI-61 which i have put 3 evenings into so far, it should all be finished by the end of next week. Electric on a 1300mah 3s pack, the plan was a free download off the Outerzone web site and the kit was nicely laser cut by my pal Wayne who has also cut one for himself and is putting his together at the same time as i am doing mine Will update the build pics every couple of evenings. If anyone else would like one of these full kits laser cut chime in and Wayne will do you one at a very reasonable price.
martin collins 1
Update, fuselage now has the rear formers, bottom sheeting and spine on, the front hatch is made up with the blocks for cutting the gun ports into, the hatch sheeting has been curled and will be added tomorrow. The rear top deck sheeting was wetted and curled tonight, it will be left to dry out over the next couple of days before trimming and gluing to the fuz. Tomorrow the wing panels will get sanded to shape and the dihedral braces will be added. Update in another couple of days.

martin collins 1
Airframe complete and sanded ready for the Polyspan covering, tailplane and elevator have to be covered first, hinged and fitted before the fin can be glued on as the fin traps the elevator joiner wire. Tomorrow it will get covered and hopefully doped on Tuesday.
martin collins 1
Getting down to the last jobs on the Hein now, i didn`t go with the Polyspan in the end, the airframe got several coats of thinned dope and sanding sealer rubbed down in between and was then painted with Tamiya acrylics, all the gear is now fitted. Tomorrow the tail will get painted red and the finishing trim colours and meat balls will go on. Next stop test flight! Once the trim colours are on i will post some pictures. I still have to make a plug to mould a canopy but that will wait till after it has flown. martin collins 1
Ok, i made the canopy using a foam plug and a pop bottle/heat gun, very pleased with how it came out. Calling this one finished now, just got to take it for it`s maiden flight one evening this week, very pleased with how it turned out, total flying weight with a 1300mah 3s pack is only 1lb 1oz, that is just over half the weight of my Durafly Brewster Buffalo which has the same wingspan. 😃 Plenty of washout built into the wings so hoping it will slow up nicely, will put it on a Wattmeter later but performance should be very good. I have another one from the same plan in my stash which was laser cut for me by my friend Wayne, when i get round to that one it will be in a totally different scale scheme to this one.
