Paul De Tourtoulon
Yes thanks, any solvent will kill rubber, and some will also pit the aluminium piston,,,
Marm Robinson
Looking at the picture you posted your engine is definitely a Mk II Irvine 46, it used the Irvine 40 main crankcase, so that machined out the 40, hence no designation. The Mk III was the red version, still with the black jet stream carb, which was a totally redesign. There was no Mk I 46, as at the time for some weird reason The manufacturer's thought it would cause confusion with the Irvine 40. The bearings in the 46 are totally Metric and easily obtained, unlike the weird Imperial/ metric mix of the Irvine 40, which are now totally unobtainable. Replacement rings are easily obtainable in the UK. Other spares are difficult to obtain, but the 46 often go for a decent price on ebay, which can be used for spares. They are fantastic engines, one of my favourite, I have both ringed and ABC

Perhaps that was changed part way through production.

Perhaps that was changed part way through production. The Irvine 46 was introduced in 1990, by which time they were only using metric in there new developments. The bearing in the 46 is 15x28x7mm, very strange you seem to be finding something different.
Nigel R
I can only report on what I have. I might also be mistaken. My understanding was the 46 had the same front end as the 40 ?
Andy Stephenson
You can check on the parts compatibility between the various marks by comparing the part numbers on the Just Engines website.
