Paint or primer for PP.

Hi, following on from my post re  adhesive for PP. I have been, or at this moment looks like I have managed to mate PP and balsa to make an engine cowl.

What I need to do now is paint the cowl, both PP & balsa. So I need either a finish paint or in best a primer that I can then repaint to a selected colour, as yet undecided . for a finish I would prefer an easily available spray can type ie from an outlet like Halfords. ( By the way they now do other paints, in cans and tins for models and such like, including camo' .) The whole cowl , excluding the PP, has been coated with sanding sealer. I have no experience of paints and RC planes. Some of the model will be covered in Diacove 1000, from Sarik, thought I would try it out.

Many thanks in advance. Bas

Hi Martin, I am trying a primer from Halfords. Aerosol, acrylic based over an abraded surface. After a couple hours it seems to have good adhesion, needs to harden properly, at least a couple of days before a final decision on adhesion is made. Your suggestion is a really good one did not think of that, and I come from an automotive background to. Thanks good suggestion. Take at least 10 brownie points.

Forget what they are made of, have to look it up.

Mainly Polycarbonate, impact resistance.

Well !!!!!!!!!!!

the primer has now dried hard. adhesion is good, it can be scrapped off with a finger nail not to easily . I would suggest that it will be OK for the use that I want ( Cowl rear) as it is not subject to hard abrasion etc.

Subject closed I think.
