Geoff the mains wifi adapter can be plugged in any socket in the room, you can get them with pass through mains power, so just use the socket your extension is plugged into. Those devices you plug into an electrical socket to provide 'ethernet' over the electrical cables are great - I use one in my workshop about 60 feet from my house.
