Phil, I guess it was Eric's post at 13:21:46 with the long string of letters that caused the text overlapping the ads problem.

Can this sort of thing not be prevented by some simple server-side validation and/or automatic modification of offending posts?  It's pretty poor that simple "mistakes" like that can render most forum posts on the same page partly unreadable.  And yes,  I am a software developer,  so I do understand the issues.

OK - just a quick test.  I'm going to post a long unbroken string,  and I think that will then totally muck up (technical term!) the formatting on this page.
 
I'll edit the post straight away though to restore normality!
 
OK - point proven!  I'll remove the offending long string!
