  1. HK are starting an 'European Tour' next month, but does anyone know of there is an event at Elmsett this year, or have I missed it???
  2. Having been under whelmed by the performance of my B17 I converted it to take Flightmax 400's. Much better. It wants to pull form a hand launch now, rather than glide. Can even loop!
  3. Vic, you are a genious! I think that that is how the guy did it with a dryer motor and a belt to a pully friction driving the bike wheel. I wanted cheap and cheerful but with speed control, after all how hard could it be? There are loads of appliances/tools that have speed control, washing machines, sewing machines, drills etc, how is the speed controlled with these? Would a 12v motor be easier to speed control? One wag at work suggested a sheep in a hamster type wheel powering it.
  4. My wife wants me to build her a fleece tumbler to get all the nasty bits out of a sheep/alpaca fleece before she spins it. Something similar to this: She wants it motorised (the guy building the one above fitted a dryer motor). I was thinking about a washing machine motor. It needs to spin from about 15 rpm to about 5 rpm so will need pulleys to gear it down and a speed controller with on/off. Not too hot on speed controllers so would appreciate any advice on how to go about it.
  5. Sorry to hear that. Contact Horizon Hobby right away and tell them what happened. You can get their details here They seem to have assisted some people in the states when their 350's fell out of the sky. Can but try. Two beeps high/low normally indicates a compass initialisation error.
  6. Me going! Normally go for both days. Weather this far out looks to be ok.
  7. If possible can you post or link to some photographs? You might find people identifying what you have and salivating about buying them!
  8. Quote from the Red Bull Youtube channel: British pilots Paul Bonhomme and Steve Jones carry out one of the most exhilarating aviation feats ever seen. Formation flying at it's absolute finest. All I can say is wow!
  9. I'd be loath to recommend a really expensive quad to you, only for you to find out that 'its not your thing'. So maybe dip your toe in the water by getting one of the cheaper quads with a in-built camera. If that sparks a passion then get something a bit more expensive with a gimbal, although you might find fitting a Mobius to a gimbal a bit tricky. I have a 350 QX2 and a friend of mine a QX3. We are yet to fly them together but my first impression is that the QX3 was much more stable than the QX2. Even in a strong wind the QX3 was rock solid in the air. If I was in the market for a new quad I would struggle to decide between a Phantom 2 or a QX3. At least with the QX3 you are not tied to one type of battery.
  10. I finally got to fly my EF B17 last night. I would describe it as slow and stable. Very slow. It looks great in the air but made hard work of fighting against a gentle head breeze. Those who have flown one, is this typical? I put three standard batteries through it, one was duff and resulted on a short trip, the other two gave flight times of around 3 minutes at full throttle. Might try better/bigger batteries to see if the performance improves.
  11. I find my brain goes to pieces when self-level is turned off. Panic eventually sets in and I have to switch it back on. Its a practise/confidence thing I suppose.
  12. Anyone going to the LMA/Rougham show this weekend? Weather looks good. I'll probably go both days.
  13. Could one of these help detect interference?
  14. Mine pluged into the pins on the board at the back of the quad. You can also solder the gimbal wires to the places where the battery wires go if you want (as long as you add an external connector so you can remove the gimbal if you need to). A lot of the Ebay types come with JST connectors which are not compatible with normal balancer plugs.
  15. Yes, I have the 'first gen' longer legs. If the ground is not flat mine has a tendency to nose over if I am not careful. The 'second gen' legs should be fine. This is the second type:
  16. BTW When I used my ebay gimbal all I did was to cable tie some pipe insulation to the bottom of the existing legs. Worked well. If you are going to use the Blade legs make sure you get the ones with the longer 'feet' as they help prevent the quad nosing over.
  17. Duane, The existing cable is just long enough for the longer legs. I did mine and did not re calibrate. All was well.
  18. Looks like it has already been done here. Sorry to go off topic, but does this break any law?
  19. It sure does! I was beginning to think you were the first person to send a RC model into space! A bit like the Starwars X wing fighter toy a few days ago.
  20. Pete - whats the story behind your amazing photo?
  21. Hi Paul, Saw that episode a while back - made me guffaw out loud. Almost as funny as Team America! Far side of the sun or Doppelganger was quite a good film - I have one of the original film prop cars.
