  1. David thanx - scary stuff - it will need extra careful inspection if I get one I can see.   Timbo the one thing I really want to know is will a Saito FG-14B petrol 4 stroke fit inside the cowl without having to chop bits out of it (the cowl I mean!). It measures 140mm from the rear of the engine mount to the prop boss and 90mm from the side mounting lugs to the cylinder head - if it won't fit that'll be an end to this plan. Thanx for the thread link I'll have a peruse when I get a mo.
  2. Thanx David - yeah you can actually see the directional instability in the Hangar 9 promo video but I think we'll call that a "scale trait" - it is a fighter after all. I am more interested in the space under the cowl as I can't stand yucky glow fuel so it would need to be petrol. Info here on posting - Picture posting
  3. Got to get a Z in:-   Z (zed) bend - double right angle bend made on the end of a control rod to attach to hole in servo arm or control horn.   Anyone for J and Q???
  4. Thanx Ken.   OY TIMBO!!
  5. Yeah Chris it's certainly a 'looker' and it would sound 'the business' with a petrol 4 stroker in it I think. Had no joy from another forum either so I emailed Hangar 9 with the question and still waiting for a reply. Crosswind? Nah Nah - only headwind landings on our patchEdited By Wingman on 23/06/2010 20:53:37
  6. Ah well, in that case it's just a question of what weight you want to fly it at or, alternatively just fly it with what you got and see how it goes 'cos it'll definately fly - just watch you don't tear the wings off it
  7. C - Capacity of a battery seen on the label of a LiPo usually preceeded by a number e.g 20C as an indication of the maximum continuous discharge rate of the battery i.e 20 times the battery capacity. Also in battery specification as the maximum charge rate that can be applied to the battery e.g. 1C (up to 5C on some batteries) Wattmeter - device inserted between battery and ESC to provide an indication of the load being produced by the motor and propeller combination - a useful aid to preventing damage through overload. Clampmeter - device consisting of a pair of pincer-like jaws and a readout which when clamped around a wire will measure the current flowing through that wire - useful aid to preventing damage through overload and provides reading without breaking any connections.
  8. Well that's the longest day over  so I thought I'd better start planning my winter project. Nothing too serious as I'm strictly an ARTFer. I quite fancy a Hangar 9 Soppy Camel but it would have to be petrol. Does anybody know what is the longest length of engine that would fit inside the cowl without modification? The Saito FG-14 runs to about 140mm to the prop boss.
  9. Drifting off topic here - Timbo will deliver a hefty smack if we're not careful!!
  10. Nah! Antenna is american Aerial is British - they both do the same thing - it's just that they have a problem getting the e in the right place
  11. Well, from experience, an 11x7 will load a 1050KV 3S powered motor to about 20A and a 16x10 to about 50A - 13x8 perhaps - you really need to take account of what size battery will fit in the fuze - that might be the limiting factor.
  12. Also should save certain persons from referring to reviews in other publications
  13. Oh yeah - that one would have it fizzing into the stratosphere in no time flat! Would need a 60A ESC for safety margin but you would probably get away with using a 40A ESC as gliders are not power driven continuously. Probably go with a 3S 2500mah 25C LiPo. However all that would be a bit extreme not to mention a tad heavy I suspect - depends what you want to do. I think for floating about thermalling you want to go with half of everything above  i.e a 20A/200W motor et al - you would still get a respectable climb out.      ps it's a bonny looking aircraft!Edited By Wingman on 21/06/2010 18:32:05
  14. Just got round to reading the July issue (I bring it offshore with me). Excellent as usual except that I wasn't very happy to see the "Aircraft Described" feature. I subscibe to "Aeroplane" magazine for articles on full size - come on guys stick with what you're really good at - models - and leave the full size stuff to others. That article was just a waste of 5 good modelling pages.
  15. RC aircraft must make good targets for target aquisition and tracking practice I should think especially given the (usually in my case) random flight path characteristics   ********   woohoo 100 up! - where's Timbo? Do I get a prize? Edited By Wingman on 18/06/2010 08:38:22
  16. You said it Timbo - thousands of charge cycles without a single problem - LiPo batts are virtually risk-free. I'm still using Hyperion LiPos that I started leccy flight with 4 years ago and they've been crashed and bashed but still give virtually full capacity. And as for young Peter - that sound you hear is the rolled up newspaper coming towards the back of your head!
  17. All together now TAKA TAKA TAKA. He! He! Yep should be good - and for a whole hour and a half as well although it will mean I'll have to miss the BGT results show - aww shame
  18. Fighting the Red Baron Friday 04 June 9:00pm - 10:35pm Channel 4 Documentary in which two modern Red Arrows pilots experience the challenges faced by pioneering aviators in the First World War. Andy Offer and Mark Cutmore fly original aircraft, recreate the key challenges the plane took on in the course of the war and reenact a dogfight in replica period aircraft kitted out with camera guns.
  19. How about this tape used for reinforcing epp wings etc?.
  20. Ah yes that looks like one of them horrible bell type motors - they usually come with some rubbishy bits of aluminium and some tiny little nuts to fasten the prop direct to the threaded shaft which is why the prop has a tiny hole (3mm?). I've found that collets don't tighten  very well onto threaded shaft - I think the threads cut into the collet - if you're lucky there will be 10 or 12mm of plain shaft at the motor and you can cut off the threaded part and fit the collet to the plain shaft. The prop will need reaming out to fit the collet adapter assuming that that won't weaken the boss.Edited By Wingman on 01/06/2010 20:36:07
  21. Tony my flying wing is orange on top and black underneath which I find lets me easily see which way up it is even at considerable height. You could paint the underside of the wing with black poster paint which won't damage the foam and it wouldn't detract from the look of the plane while it's on the ground. ( Or of course "monochrome stripes allied aircraft for the recognition of SUH!)
  22. Hey James how about the SBS - Special Bunny Service - wings already fitted" Here's your first recruit!
  23. Yeah Chris I think that's good advice - I've had a couple of really squirrely maidens hand launching at FP - luckily they went up instead of down
