  1. Posted by Percy Verance on 24/07/2018 05:37:25: Hi Tim Yes Tim, I did see a chap carry a rather nice blue and silver model out to fly it after unfolding the wings. You were wearing a hat because of the sun (so was i!). Yep, that was me! The daft hat is my habitual garb to keep the sun off my head and out of my eyes. The model was the Civilian Coupe. Tim
  2. Posted by Percy Verance on 23/07/2018 09:07:33: Here's the flightline at around 11am on the Saturday....it got much busier on Sunday. Edited By Percy Verance on 23/07/2018 09:36:41 I recognise those models in the middle distance - they're mine! I was there on the Saturday, and had a great time - as always. Tim
  3. Today's top three... Just - Radiohead All About That Bass - Meghan Trainor Feel the Sunshine - Alex Reece But that's today. It can all change tomorrow! Tim
  4. Hi John, Netty bought me a flight in a Tiger from Duxford a few years ago. Although it was a mere 30 minutes in length, it's made a memory I'll never forget! Tim
  5. Posted by fly boy3 on 04/07/2018 15:34:42: Slightly off thread, but I would like to ask Ian any Info. on the sportster. Thanks Edited By fly boy3 on 04/07/2018 15:35:32 Looks like a Geoff Northmore design, but I could be wrong.   OK. At the risk of sounding vain, I have to confess that my favourite model is still the Blackburn B2 that I designed and built some years ago. It's not fast or aerobatic, but it is very pretty and a gentle challenge to fly smoothly. Based on the sole survivor at Shuttleworth. Tim Edited By Tim Hooper on 04/07/2018 21:08:21
  6. Posted by Graham Ashby (Editor) on 06/06/2018 20:08:57: ...... and we're seriously contemplating having it built, photographed and committed to print. Graham ......and now all you need is some gullible fool to it take it on, eh? Tim
  7. Just returned from one of the best Greenacres weekends ever! I don't fly big 3D models. I don't fly jets. I DO fly club size electric models, and I've flown all weekend. I had to wait a few minutes once of twice before I took off but that's par for the course. My huge thanks to Jim and the guys and gals of the Greenacres club, for giving us all a memorable weekend of fun and flying in, probably, the best weather we've ever experienced there. We'll be going again, that's for sure. Tim
  8. Somewhere in the middle, I'd say. I really like the HK film - handles compound curves well (like Oracover), and doesn't go slack (unlike Solarfilm). Tim
  9. Just wondering if 6S is enough for a 380kv motor - unless you go for a deeper pitch, perhaps. I run a 245kv motor on 10S, so maybe somewhere in the middle might work for you, say, 8S? Tim
  10. Just as an aside; It's not the power available from a large electric set-up that's the problem, as far as I can see. It's the field-charging (that calls for massive leisure batteries or a generator), or the option of carrying a large stock of costly li-pos with you to the field. I do have a couple of 10-cell models, but rarely fly them because of the charging issues. I'm happy at the 5S watershed, it seems..... Tim
  11. We paid our first visit there last year, and yes, we're going back in September. Brilliant! Tim
  12. Hi Geoff, Your struts look great! I used a similar method on my 65" Blackburn B2. The struts were made of brass tube and rod, with an enclosed spring. Still working well! Tim
  13. Posted by Percy Verance on 17/03/2018 11:38:41: Nothing much ever came my way either Tom. In fact I started with nothing and I still have most of it........... **LINK** Tim
  14. The brake function only works for a second or two, and is designed solely for use on a folding prop. When the throttle back, the prop is braked to a halt and the blades can fold back because of the airflow. The brake function makes little or no difference to a model fitted with a fixed prop. Tim
  15. There's a real one on static display in the museum at RAF Cosford. Tim
  16. I had a Super Star in the 1970s. Powered by a Veco .61, and fitted with Waltron radio gear. I was too inexperienced to fly it well, so it had a short life! However, a couple of years, I was inspired by the Star to draw up my own pseudo-classic aerobat, very much based on the Super Star's proportions. For obvious reasons, I named it the Charlatan...... 17. We took my 92 year old father-in-law to see the film, as he remembers the actual events although he was young at the time. he was very moved by it, and said it captured the atmosphere of the moment pretty faithfully. I enjoyed the film too. As an admirer of Gary Oldman's acting abilities and characterisations (from Stan the New York cop in 'Leon' to George Smiley in 'Tinker, Tailor..), I'm always impressed with his portrayals. Tim PS Here's Churchill getting a bit funky....... **LINK**
  18. I'd add the 2 degrees just to be safe when it slows up for landing. Tim
