  1. That's looking fab. Trying to finish the blocking and shaping around the cowls on mine. Made more difficult by going with 4 strokes as the throttle linkage is not straight forward. Got one roughed out, think I'm going to glue it to the wing to finish off the upper part which is supposed to blend in with the top of the wing. Simon
  2. Replaced quite a few bearings in my 91's in the heli's with stainless to try and reduce the effect of the high nitros. Never had a problem with any failures and those motors are revving hard in a tough environment. Cheers, Simon
  3. Danny, have you used heat to help bend that piano wire? If so, could you tell me how you did it. Got to bend something similar, but I thought the heat spoilt the properties of the wire? Simon
  4. The balsa I used for the top and canopy was quite soft, so didn't bother hollowing out. If you've used something heavy it wouldn't be much hassle with a Dremel to hollow it out......quite dusty though. Simon
  5. Easy mistake to make, but if instructing I would have hoped a control check would have been the first thing done before flying. Easy to comment in hindsight, but a good lesson if no one got hurt. Simon
  6. 1. Funfighter (would be the Mosquito for me) 2. Atom special cheers, Simon
  7. Was hoping to fly tomorrow, but I'm unwell and exhausted and I don't want to rush setting it up and then miss something important. Picture doesn't do it justice. Fitted with a P100RX. Just need to put up a shelf to keep her out of the way till next season. Simon
  8. Thanks for the heads up. Been waiting months for those longer bags to come in, glad I spotted your post and ordered them. Simon
  9. Danny, The chamfer bit I'm happy with, really locks the planks in place and reduces the gaps. I wish I could remember where I read you comments on the planking. I'm sure there was a sketch showing an individual plank starting narrow, widening nearer the centre an then tapering back down. I understand the idea of how to divide up the length around the former you are planking to determine the width of the plank, but the sketch showed a curved edge to the outline of the plank.............I was wondering how you would create those curves and still expect no gaps? Here is my first attempt, but I didn't taper the planks. As I would only be transitioning between two formers, the planks would just have straight chamfered edges. This was the front where I tried using a bit of taper on the planks. Didn't get the spacing spot on, but definitely less wedges towards the end. I'm pretty happy as it was my first go at planking. Built a lot of models, but it's a technique I've never used. I'm building a Hawker hunter at some point which uses a lot of planking, so this has been great practice. Cheers, Simon
  10. Danny, I read your comments about planking and the idea of shaping the planks with regards to the distance around the former. If the planks are going from narrow to wide and then back down to narrow, how do you determine the curve on the sides of the planks? Not sure if I'm explaining that well enough, but I've just recently had a go at doing some planking, just using narrow parallel strips, but you end up with a few odd little wedges here and there. It went well, but I'd be interested to hear any more tips. Simon
  11. I sold mine on after Greenacres, but this was her on her maiden. Only posted the link as there are a couple of unsuitable words from the chap trying to keep up with it. **LINK** Cheers, Simon
  12. I fly a Boomerang Sprint with a Wren 80. A great model, slow flying and very aerobatic. Some people rate them as boring but depends what you want. I'm trying to do rolling circles with mine!! You could squeeze your 80 into a Nano but I wouldn't recommend it. The newest kid on the block is the Ripmax Xcaliber. Never owned one, but they fly well and the retract package looks good. There is one on Bmfa at the moment. Hard to get hold of as they are selling well. Dont think you could go wrong with either one. Just had my first year flying jets and they are very addictive. Not an expert but happy to help. Can't find a photo of my Sprint but here is my Nano which is powered by a trusty Wren 54. Cheers, Simon
  13. Would be good to choose a single model. After building the Pushy cat and being the only one of two flying it was a bit disappointing. The fun is all the models being the same en masse. Will keep an eye on the thread but for me I would prefer to build something traditional, not a fan of foam. Simon
  14. Just lining things up before drilling wing bolts and glueing on nacelles.
  15. Will try another picture instead, but glad its not just me. Simon
  16. Yep, I see the image in the preview pane, but as soon as you click add posting, the pop up comes up. WIll try using Ctrl X and copy the link directly.
  17. I've just tried again on both my ipad and pc and get the same pop up asking me to use paste from word or something. Can't see what I'm doing wrong, done plenty of pictures in the past.
  18. Thought this was limited to my ipad last night, but I've just tried again on my PC and get the same error. I copy the link from photobucket and past into the pop up box for inserting your images. Re-size and click okay and everything looks good, but even if I don't type any text as soon as I click "post", there is a pop up box talking about copying and pasting text from notepad or something. Once you okay this it removes all the pictures and text from the response box. Is this a fault or has something changed? Simon
  19. I would post a picture but keep getting an error on my iPad about pasting from notepad or something, then it deletes my whole post. Tried it three times already. Simon
  20. Glad I read this. Was hoping it would allow me to stream sky movies via the laptop to my TV upstairs. Bought a very expensive Apple TV air thing box, but was annoyed to find it works with everything except Sky due to licencing issues. Not really worth it for me, just need a cheaper option to get around having to buy multi room (not so much the cost, but I don't want some sky bloke drilling holes in my loft converision walls). Simon
  21. Good news. We recently bought a little dog who is now my flying mate most Sundays. This is Geoff after a few hours of chasing flies and butterflies and running backwards and forwards to the flight line. Not had him long but had to put him in the kennels whilst we are away......can't wait to see him on Sunday. Cheers, Simon
  22. Lee, i think most people run those servos on 6v regulated with no problems. Seen a lot of jets with those Hugh end digital JR servos on powerbox switches. I use the powerbox gemini 2 which is rated at 10 amps and a bit overkill for my jets. Cheers, Simon
  23. Paul, Thanks for the offer, but as I'm off on holiday I will just leave it till I get back. My annoyance was being told that they had to wait till the new direct debit was in place.......almost like I would not pay yet I've been subscribing for years. I just don't see the problem, I'm sure it's just a tick in a box somewhere and I would have my access back within hours. Simon
