  1. Hi Rocker. I have one of these kits now and I do have achoice between a Laser 80. an OS70FS and also a ASP61FS. I see you have mounted your Laser 80. Others seem to have fitted various engines but I am finding it a challenge to get any of them to fit upright without something touching the cowl and yet some folk refer to their engines as 'perfect fit' etc. Any chance of a pic of your installation? I would appreciate it very much. Thanks Terry
  2. David have a look here. It's not easy! Rather than go off topic if you need any more info just PM me. Terry
  3. Every so often this old chestnut comes around and that is to be expected. Our hobby is one with many strands appealing to different people with many people interested in more than one aspect of it. It's not surprising then that the editor's task becomes more and more difficult. Magazines exist because they make money and they make money because the editorial staff best guess the audience in a broad sense. We do not own RCME. It is owned by a commercial company. I, for one, do not envy the job of the enthusiastic editor trying to deliver a magazine containing enough content to appeal to a sufficient number of casual readers and regular subscribers to keep it healthy in a business sense. The content must reflect the needs of the market and as we, as a group, have wider interests now than ever before the articles must represent that. I'm not a 'drone' enthusiast, 3D flyer or free flight follower. Control line flying does not excite me. However, I do like to keep in touch with the many varied aspects of our 'broad church' that is aeromodelling and to understand a little of developments in a wider sense. Together we stand - divided we fall. We need our magazines to survive and in that regard both commercial demands and the wider membership interests need to be acknowledged so we have to accept that is the reality. I would rather have an inclusive, surviving magazine than one which is to specific that it writes it's own death warrant. Personally I am still mourning the loss of Pete Lowe but there is enough to keep me buying RCME and have tried most of the others (I do buy the odd copy of competitors issues when there is something that appeals to me) I applaud the efforts of the editorial staff and continue to look forward each month to the issue arriving in my post box. Would I miss it - yes I would. Terry

  5. Well done you then! LOL! I thought the principle was to be applauded and truly worthy of recogniton. I did have the sound up and was hooked! Next laugh - forget what I said above re - colour - now I've actually started covering up the damage it is not identical after all !! It is so close tho' and as the Wottie was bought by me on a dark January evening from the back of a car in the rain round the back of a cinema in a french town 60 miles away for about £25 for the airframe I can't complain. It's probably at least third hand and I've had a lot of fun flying it all last year! I think it is 'sun bleached' so I'll never get a match LOL! Cheers Terry
  6. Posted by Engine Doctor on 09/06/2016 10:42:14: Hi Terry . Thanks for the up-date. I found that green a day or so ago after a first Ic flight for the model..Duh ! and it looks like a good match. regarding the exact colour , Ripmax couldn't help ! The Oracover I eventually used was found in my box of left over covering so the slight colour variation is even less noticable . I was given the model after test flying it for a club mate who had converted it to EDF power ! Yes EDF . It flew OK for a short while and the motor suddenly cut out . When he recovered it we had a go at finding the fault and there was a loud bang inside the fuz and clouds of black smoke came out . He very quickly disconnected the battery and the fire fortunately went out. The speed controller , 120 amp, had exploded . https://youtu.be/e6D98N8TJqw The fire was unfortunately not recorded but the plane lives and flys again. Ha ha!! The Brit spirit of enterprise is alive and well! Looked a bit underpowered to me and pilot did well to fly it and recover from the motor cut. Thanks for that ED made my day Well worth a look folks!
  7. HI all, Thanks for you help - for future 'events' requiring repairs the green covering is: ORACOVER royal mint, 600mm , # 28-043-010  ( the final 2 digits relate only to the length of roll it is cut from 10 = 10 metres so 02 means 2 metre roll) Cheers Terry Edited By Terry Walters on 09/06/2016 10:11:49
  8. Well done - lovely - one day I will get back on mine! Terry
  9. HI Cymaz thanks for that - much appreciated. There is one on that site which is similar but I think I'm homing in on the right Oracover here in France and Germany. Cheers Terry
  10. Posted by Engine Doctor on 03/06/2016 16:01:56: Hi Just had the same problem with te same colour. Checked at LMS for solarfilm and oracover colours without success . The LMS phoned ripmax and were told they could get the covering but none was in stock and it would take weeks to arrive with no idea how lomg ? My LMS had a similar problem with another wot model ÂÂÂ Orange covering a little while ago . When pressed for a time frame for delivery the "customer Service person " got quite shirty ! Poor planning and attitude to customers simple request ? . The original covering is pretty rubbish ÂÂÂ . I opted for an Oracover green that was nearest , I believe its the same colour thatPete B Moderator posted , not the same colour but near enogh ,and replaced all of the green on the fus. It doesn't look out of place and only really notices were the cowling which is a richer green buts up against it . Hope you get it sorted. Hi ED thanks for all that - Sorry you couldn't get the exact colour. I don't suppose you recall the actual colour that was identified as the correct colour. At them moment I'm leaning towards this colour which, on the computer screen, looks the nearest. Terry
  11. Posted by Pete B - Moderator on 03/06/2016 10:42:44: I'd hazard a guess that you might not get any closer than this one, Terry... Good try Pete - you're on the same German site as me - you can buy by the metre rather than a minimum 2 metre roll. You've picked one of those that I had selected but it also looks more like this and particularly like this. I'll need counselling at the end of this......... Happy days... Terry
  12. Posted by onetenor on 03/06/2016 09:47:39: Ask a few MS to send samples Simples Good idea but unfortunately it's asking a lot as I'm in France - I can buy Oracover here or from Germany via internet but I guess someone out there knows the exact coulour. Thanks anyway - appreciate the suggestion. Terry
  13. Posted by Bob Cotsford on 03/06/2016 09:31:28: All I know is that it wasn't the one Steve Webb sent me when I ripped the U/C out of mine a couple of years ago! Unfortunately the rolls are not marked so I can't even tell you which one it's not. Sorry. Thanks Bob!! That's made me smile! At least you know the problem LOL! Cheers Terry
  14. Hi all, Just finishing a repair to the front fuz bottom and u/c due to a pilot induced stall on a dead stick landing. Having a problem deciding which Oracover green it is. Anyone know for sure? There are several 'greens' on the site and there are perhaps three it might be. As a visit to the LMS is a minimum of about 100 miles............... you get the idea. Any help appreciated. Couple of pics below Terry
  15. Brilliant Josip! I watched the second one too. Lovely noise. Thanks again for another good link!

Posted by Donald Fry on 29/05/2016 15:54:42: Posted by Terry Walters on 29/05/2016 08:55:15: Phil - In the UK I don't think there has ever been a real problem in 'modern' times as long as the swastika is not used for 'political' purposes. Even in Germany, where it is illegal to display it, you can still buy books with WW11 photos, cinema films etc in with the emblem in place, Here in France there is no ban other than being used for political purposes but some people are still sensitive to it. It does seem absurd that you can go to air museums here and see the real thing complete with a swastika and not replicate that on a model. I used to fly an Me 109 foamie with it on without any comment. ARTF mfrs probably just hedge their bets by not including it so as not to preclude any market. Terry     Terry, am prepared to be found wrong, but I thought it is illegal in France to display a swastica in public. Permissions can be granted, I.e. To a museum display. I understand that if you apply for a model, it won't normally be granted, as the response would tend to be choose another model/colour scheme. Ok - Donald - yes agreed - there is a law in France that relates to ideology (e.g. used politically) but apart from my own experience of clubs in France and members' aeroplanes I offer the following in support of my thoughts. Firstly a photo taken by me at the World Scale Champs 2014. This entry was on public display all week in front of the french public who attended the event and visited the display marquee, watched the flying competition and for the final day's full size airshow. There are other images that appear in french RC magazines too. Visiting aeroplanes at french airshows also display the full insignia as appropriate. Secondly a 'google' translation of an item from the FFAM (BMFA equivalent) site respponding to a query relating to the use of the swastika: Apologies for the unusual words but that's Google for you. I can supply the french but then I'd get told off! LOL! Q "Can we reproduce on a radio-controlled model airplane insignia of the "swastika"? Is this prohibited by French law or a federal regulation of FFAM?" A "In our view, there is no prohibition to that effect in France since it is at this level to reproduce the swastika as part of the reproduction of a plane having the swastika. However, we believe that the use of the swastika is forbidden from the moment it is indicative of an ideology (c.f. graves desecration). At this level, the FFAM do not emphasize the negative opinion at the moment there is no ideology behind this reproduction on a rig" So I think we are both right to some extent or other Donald but it needs to be considered in the context that is appropriate.
