  1. works for me. And I am still there (not been deleted as a duplicate ) VA
  2. Not this year - have an important excuse - will be on my honeymoon well - not my first one, but one should never give up.... VA, wedding department
  3. Congratulations Carl, now there is no excuse to fly at Greenacres (other than the weather....) VA
  4. Poor pilot - has to fly that without goggles looks good, I wonder what the final weight will be. And I wonder also in which conditions it will fly (knowing what it is like in Greenacres...) VA
  5. Weather was nice and warm yesterday - but 15mph cross wind with a few light gusts. Makes landing an adventure VA
  6. Congratulations BEB, was on the field myself yesterday, but a stiff cross wind didn't allow any maiden actions. I had enough to do to bring my much larger Angel 50 down in one piece, so I didn't want to destroy my winter build on it's first flight. VA
  7. Sounds interesting. will start to remove the cob-webs from my Mephisto... 8 minutes out of 20 sec engine time sounds a lot to me. probably I have to wait for a day with good thermals.... VA
  8. oops - finger too wide - produced a double post... VA Edited By Vecchio Austriaco on 06/03/2014 12:02:24
  9. Hi, I like that thread, I played around with several extras, I played with an ARTF or another ARTF or a little bit older but more work – this one is still unfinished – a shame as I have all necessary parts including the engine. Looking forward also to the overall weight you will get with this design. And of course I am interested how it will perform. VA
  10. I like that despite the fact that the poor pilot get's all the exhaust gasses into the cockpit. Probably it was a small engine and very much diluted by the air blown over by the prop. now the question is - who should I follow? Lindsay/ Beb? VA
  11. kc said it already, Dave - there is no chance - you have to buy her a nice new but old fashioned watch! Probably from a Swiss watchmaker VA
  12. There is no problem, it will charge the AA's - there is a NiCd and NiMh setting on the charger, you just have to key in the charging current. it will detect the number of batteries itself. It will also stop charging when the batteries are full (delta peak feature). It also has a time limit you can set. You can find the detailed instructions for the Accucell 6 on the internet. 300 mA (0,3A) will do for these batteries when you are not in a hurry. VA, Accucell 8 user (a bit more power than the 6, but otherwise similar)
  13. Looking forward to your flight / maiden report! Mine is still waiting for the grill/bonnet to be finished and then it is time to weigh it again (now with bigger engine - should need less lead ) VA
  14. Not bad, now we (the Dawn Flyer builders) have something to copy VA
  15. Hi, many of us had a " family break" from the hobby, it shows that once you are caught by this virus it is hard to get rid of it have fun and enjoy the forum VA
  16. Hi Keith, with your big 4-0 you are between the youngsters of this forum You will find a lot of engineering folk here, models are the kind of toys they like (nobody to find a second meaning in this sentence please... ) Flying in a club gives you a lot of new ideas and a lot of new contacts. Especially when I started to settle on this island I enloyed the company of the club mates on the weekends. VA
  17. Posted by Erfolg on 18/02/2014 18:39:49: I must say that the size of the CAP20 is just about right for me. Well, that is now, a year ago, to big. So - are you building it Carl? Would be nice to see something - like a building blog. I play with the idea of doing it, this is just the size where flying starts. But still small enough for transport. And of course I would do it electric. It's the size of model you just throw into the boot and go. No need to take the wings off. And of couse I would do it in the Italian design - as a tribute to my 11 years living there... VA
  18. Be carefull with the liquid flux - as nice as it works for the soldering as bad it is for your tools. Especially during winter. The acid vapour condensates on cold metal parts such as pliers and they get rusty in no time. Why do I know it? Well I did a lot of little soldering jobs in the past - I cut 200m of zinc coated steel wire into small pieces and soldered them together again.... **LINK** VA
  19. Glueing stabilizers in position - I am never sure if the angle of the tailplane is right - even I measure it several times. I am using only 12h epoxy for this job - gives me almost an hour of adjustment time. This is probably also house and workshop related. Have no proper space where I can walk around to do the measurements without touching/moving the plane. Especially if it is on the larger (>1500mm wingspan) side. VA
  20. Storm was rattling rather violent on the house here in MK, but thanks god the only thing that happened was my green bin blown into the middle of the close. As the lid banged around in the wind I heard it and removed it from the road at 4. Later we had a short power cut, but that's it.
  21. So it has 1.9kg in understandable units More than I thought. I would use a Hacker A30-10XL (1100kV) or a Turnigy 35-48 (900 0r 1000kV) with 3 or better 4 cells. this should move it around quite easily... looking forward to comments. By the way - the electric flight database - last updated 2012??? VA
  22. Ben, the Trex 450 is a fine helicopter, I wouldn't go for any smaller one, it is not only the stability, it is also the visibility. There is no issue with wind, helicopters can fly in higher winds than fixed wing planes (speaking about models). Transport of a 450 is not a problem, there are cases on the market also bags, but this is also a point where you can save some cash by DIY. When I lived in Italy there was a guy at the field who always brought his Protos plus radio in a homemade case on the back of his motorbike. By the way the Protos is a 500 class and a good bit bigger than the 450. Go for the standard battery, no need to make the heli heavier, this will not add anything to it's flying characteristics. So 2200 mAh, 3 cells is what you need. Making the heli heavier may also ruin the engine as you will constantly draw a higher current to keep the thing in the air. Also in some situations you will need to lift the heli pretty quick - which will not work if you are at the edge of it's power. Head speed: A too low head speed will lead to instability - the heli will start to swing its tail to the left and to the right - many people think this is a problem of the gyro or the tail rotor, but even if everything is fine except a low head speed the tail movement will not stop. Don't believe the "test flown" phrases coming from some of the manufacturers. You need an experienced heli pilot for the set-up, or better a person doing set-up in a professional way. these people will also look for the right head speed! If you have no experience it may well be that you will not have a lot of fun with the heli. A heli set-up in a bad way is a pig to fly. Spares and technical specs: the best is you have a well known brand, then spares should be easily available and also for a long time. A T-Rex 450 is a well established heli, so spares are not a problem. Technical specs: the best is you buy a kit and assemble the heli yourself. After that you know every part and where it belongs to, so in case of a crash you can easily identify the spares you need and will be able to fix the machine. VA, heli department
  23. Not to give a 9th opinion I just say it looks good so far! The more Dawn Flyers the better! VA
  24. Think I cannot avoid building the Cap. It's something according to my taste. Question is only when... VA
  25. be carefull by thinning the wheels out - they may lose stability if the rubber is too thin - means they might look like you have a flat tyre .... VA
