  1. Switch is fine for charging a life battery but would still want a balance lead socket to check battery percentage remaining as it's going in a bipe. Undo u/c, remove wing struts, remove bottom wing to check the battery.... Got to be a better way! Maybe i will just run the extended balance lead into the cockpit for checking. Life battery on ign and a separate rx one, how many 10 min flights would you get on a 1000mah 2s?
  2. I have an extension lead, bought off ebay but was wondering how to mount it to the plane so i could plug in from the outside. Someone must have done it on their plane?
  3. It is more for checking the percentage of the battery left without having to remove the wing in between flights.
  4. I am just getting back into petrol aircraft having flown solely electric for the last 15 years and i fitted a 2s lipo into my first model with a voltage regulator, the engine is a mag version so no need for an ignition battery. My next model will have electronic ignition so i will need two batteries, one for ignition and one for the receiver, what are the benefits or otherwise of Life v Lipo? Also is it possible to have an external balance plug point so that the battery can be charged and balanced without having to remove the wing?
  5. Glad it all went well on the test flight, will post some pics of the new cowls after i pick them up tomorrow.
  6. Top wing has been recovered and is now finished, that was the easy part as not too much damage or fuel on it, next is the bottom wing which has a fair bit of soaking to deal with, i will post a pic once that has been recovered. I have made new elevators/rudder as it was quicker than trying to remove the old covering and deal with the significant fuel soaking on those.
  7. I am about to start planking the fuselage on my foam Carvair project, some of this is heavily curved, what is the best method, is there a better way than simply sanding till you get the next bit to be a good fit, do you make a card template for each one? What is the preferred method, would be interested to know if there is more than one way to do this.
  8. There is a RAFMAA fly in in three weeks time, don`t know of a model show, would be interested in going if there is........
  9. Got the test flight in on my YT Aichi Val today, Zenoah 26cc powered, lovely flier just needed a few clicks of up trim............
  10. I would like to put together a folder with pictures of some of the foamboard/depron models you guys have built to put on the tables at the Model Builders show, could you send me your favourite picture of each of the planes you have built, it will help promote this method of construction, some part build shots would be good also. I have let Manny know you are coming on the Sunday Graham so entry will obviously be free when you arrive.
  11. No oil soaking is down to the tail end in places unfortunately so got to make the best of a bad job.
  12. Sounds like it would work but i am against the clock, hoping to fly it on Friday 😜
  13. Refurbing an old Svenson Wayfarer, most of the old covering is removed now and the fuselage has fuel soaking on quite a lot of it. I don't want to get into rebuilding the whole lot, what is the best way to treat it so i can get the new covering to stick?
  14. Many thanks for the replies so far, i will give the parcel tape a go. As can be imagined there is significant fuel soaking round the nose of the model, i don`t want to get into cutting it all out and rebuilding that area, what is the best way to pull the fuel out/stabilize the area before recovering?
  15. Hmmm, fuselage covering is pretty stubborn, looks like Solarfilm which has welded itself to the wood, i sense this is going to be a long job getting it off. 🤬
  16. Wings now stripped of covering, there are a few patches where the clear layer of film has come off but left a layer of the colour base stuck to the balsa, what is best method of removing that, i did see someone post a good method of doing it fairly recently but can`t find it on a search........ Fuselage will be stripped tomorrow and will go through my rolls of covering to see if i have what i want.
  17. I bought this earlier this year at a bring and buy to fix up as the Wayfarer was a great design that flies really well, the kits fetch a premium now and this one was going very cheap. This will be a re model as well as a re cover as i have some mods in mind 😜. Hopefully it will look a bit different and eye catching once done, power will be supplied by an NGH 9cc petrol, another used purchase that i have been looking to use in an airframe, it drops in here nicely so off to the LMS on Monday for a suitable mount. This will have to be a quick turnaround as i am hoping to fly it this Friday at the RAFMAA fly in.
  18. I think the `chosen ones` are Hawker Tempest and FW190, Richard can give us the spec, i think they will be for 3 or 4 cell lipo packs.
  19. MASS BUILD, MASS BUILD, MASS BUILD 😁👍
  20. I have used it to make moulds for canopies and just finished ir with a cew coays of PVA and paint before heating a pop bottle over it. Shoyld be great for scratch builds, foam decks etc. I plan to use it on a few of my builds using Deluxe materials glass cloth and Eze-Kote.
  21. Glad you have found them employment Richard, this one was hanging round here looking for something to do and seemed to be interested in lending a hand with my model construction. Cheap labour as well, bung him a few bowls of soup a week and it keeps him happy.
