  1. Thanks chaps. Sadly I am back at work in Spain so this will be on hold for a while, but it will happen eventually, along with the home built retracts which I have already cannabalised two leccy screwdrivers for!@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  2. You can stiffen it by cutting the tube and inserting a length of brass tube into the tube inside the tank. But make sure you trim it so it won't get stuck at the back of the tank and moves freely to all the corners.
  3. Did you paint the markings on or use decals?
  4. Looks idyllic Myron.  I imagine it can be a tough place to live in the depths of a snowy winter though.
  5. Thanks Eric. I think its epoxy, but I'm not sure. How can I tell?   Cowls, I am thinking along those lines too, but how to attach them?   Retracts, any suggestions for a suitable motor? I was thinking a cordless screwdriver motor, but it would be pretty heavy?
  6. I have just picked up one of these models, from the BMFA Classifieds. As an ex RAF Herc ALM I was keen to get the model. It is set up with electrics and has fixed u/c.   I intend making it a semi scale RAF model with the 1990s two tone scheme with a white belly. But before I do there are a few things I want to sort out.   1) The u/c. Fixed at present I intend to fit retracts, but the ASM ones cost £299! So I am considering a conventional nose gear, but using an electric screw jack type for the mains (which is how the full size works albeit hydraulic motors not leccy). So any ideas how I can achieve this with limited skill, limited tools and resources (no lathe, no welding)?   2) The nacelles. These are where the batteries fit, one per motor (3S 4000mah Lipo). They are designed to be held on with ether screws or tape, but they are flimsy and are already looking tatty. So I am considering reinforcing them with CF tows and cyano, but how to attach them to the model? I would like a quick release mechanism, perhaps magnets, as they need to be removed and refitted every flight to access the batteries. How have you done yours? Suggestions?   3) Finally the fuselage. It is fully assembled and access is very tricky. The fibre glass fuselage seems to vary in thickness across the model and in some places it is very thin and flexible. So how best to reinforce it and stiffen it so it doesn't get cracked the first time I lift it into the car? Remember it is fully built and has limited access for a gorilla like me. 7. At least you get Xmas at home. The lads you're recovering have had a very crappy time and unless you go they wouldn't be home at all. I spent a couple of Xmas's in Afghan.... it pretty much sucked.   Look at it another way, you're making some people very happy this Xmas.   Shaun   (ex C130, Puma, Merlin and other stuff, waiting for an Easy Jet home...)
  8. Looks great Ton, superb to watch the photo become a 3D, then a model.   Danny, chuck the link to the Turbo Cad lesson up please.
  9. Be advised YT have a Christmas sale on with a few models at reasonable prices.
  10. I know this was originally my post, I love that piece of film. Shame its not hi-res though.   This one is though   Select 1080p, turn it up and enjoy.   Was it Tornado?Edited By Shaun Chant on 09/12/2010 18:00:12
  11. I would but I have turbines, so probably not. But when you look at what people do convert, why not this.   As for EDF, they are woefully inefficent, props are always better. So this could give you the jet thrills at (expensive) artf prices.
  12. Cmon, who is going to be the first?   Convert me!   Its a lovely looking model, ruined with that 2st exhaust hanging down.   You know you want to...
  13. EF16   There's loads on this forum, but this is my thread on the model. Loved it BTW!
  14. A few years ago a mate and I were flying on a very old fresh morning. Suddenly there was a loud crack from his H9 Spitfire, loss of power and a steep descent. He recovered the model safely and we went to investigate. His spinner had shattered and the bits we found showed ice accretion!   Cold weather flying although fun, has a whole new set of problems: weak batteries, brittle wood and metal etc.
  15.   Tucano 60+ sized - to commemorate the replacement of the Tucano which will be announced soon (if it hasn't already - Pilatus)   FW190 60 sized   IL2 60 sized
  16. Homebase silver covered insulation bubblewrap makes great wing bags. I use them on my turbine.
  17. I wonder why these never "took off" in a commercial sense? They carry upto twice the payload of conventional aircraft and burn half the fuel. Surely with modern tech these could easily do away with slow ferry crossings, and large cargo aircraft?
  18. It looks fantastic Mario, a real credit to you. Great takeoff recovery by your boy as well!   MTH - progressing well mate, looks good.
  19. From 2:00 minutes in it becomes a scene from Weston Park! I expected the buildings to start exploding...
