Solartex for a PUP
Andy Green replied to bert baker's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
Mick Reeves Models sell a linen solartext 'to their spec' I used it on my 1/4 scale pup. Their site isn't easy to navigate so suggest you phone them. Andy -
Can't wait, me and my lad loved it, he's 21 now and at uni. Craig Charles was a presenter at one time. Andy

This happened last year too, or is this a recycled post? Andy -

Andy Green replied to thunderstreak.keith's topic in General Radio Discussion
Hi Most of not all use the FrySky Hack module in the Tx so any Frysky compatable RX will work. Take a look at this thread: Shows a DIY conversion, and tons of information. Andy -
Sig Astro Hog engine size
Andy Green replied to Andrew Cousins's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
I wouldn't use a 9g type too small - HS225 would be OK, or maybe a HS82. Don't worry about the weight there is plenty of wing area. Andy -

I did on mine - used a servo in each wing and the centre servo position for the flap servo. slows down nicely but does float on a bit, so don't tend to use them often. Andy -

I use Robart pin hinges on everything these days (mostly) and have them on my Hog. but suggest you also use their drilling jig. I wrote this guide to hinging some time ago, might help in your decision. Andy -
One thing not mentioned so far - a Laser will always sound better than a 2 stroke Andy

I think the Acro Wot was designed around the Laser 70, so I'd go for that given the choice. Andy

I've just built a Venture 60 from the Plan. I have an OS 80 FS in mine, flies it lovely, a 100 should also be a good fit. Andy PS the link by JonRyan is of mine and it has a Saito 62 in. Edited By Andy Green on 06/06/2016 16:55:42 -
Disappointing Long Marston Show
Andy Green replied to ChrisB's topic in Shows, Club Events and Competitions
I too was a bit disappointed, I wont be going again, it used to be a good show to kick the season off, but now with it being so close to Weston (that is a great day out), I'll hang on til then in future. Andy -
Fiber Glass covering
Andy Green replied to Andrew Cousins's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
Good video but I would argue his comment about getting a lot of epoxy on the cloth, if you use a brush this is what you will get, pour a small puddle of epoxy on and spread with a credit card, try not to get too much epoxy on the cloth. As usual ask 10 people and you will get 11 different answers. Andy -
Fiber Glass covering
Andy Green replied to Andrew Cousins's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
Hi Andrew To answer your questions in order, No it wont add any additional weight if done properly, a good guide and recommended material can be seen here. The glass cloth goes around curves very easy, but you have to use the correct cloth, and no you cannot cover open structures, if you have to you can cover first with say Oratex, and glass over that. You can buy well proven materials from Fighter Aces or Kingfisher Aviation. Andy -
Since we're all going get told off, thought I'd chime in... Up on the Orme would be great, if you get them on the edge - you get a little push back too. A
-
News on the BBC, the Great Orme needs a new tenant farmer - rent £1 a year. Have to be out in all weathers to tend sheep, but that shouldn't deter you hardy slopers. Andy Edited By Andy Green on 18/05/2016 09:08:27

I'd add, buy from a reputable model shop, there are plenty of fakes out there. Andy

Thanks Martyn but don't change plans just for me, I can make one day, I have committed to taking the family to Ragley, now I know I didn't realise the date, and I doubt any one else will remember, but all the same, the young'ens were excited. Lets see how it pans out. Andy
-
I just noticed that October 1st & 2nd is the Ragley Hall festival of flight weekend Hmmm, yes that might make it a deal breaker for me, Ragley is just behind me, be a shame not to go. Can I do just one of the days? Andy
-
Great idea Martyn, I'm up for it. Date does clash with a JMA event, let see if its a goer, if so I'm in. Better get my finger out with my new kipper. Just got the wings from Barry. Andy
-
I assume you will be using modern radio, so have some expo dialed in to soften it around the centre. Andy
-
Barry's work is outstanding, and had a set of wings delivered just the other day. Hope he finds a buyer. Andy

I struggled with win 8 / 8.1 but installed a couple of apps called Start8 and Modernmix to get a start button back and run Metro apps in a window. Never looked back. Andy
