  1. Hi Chris, I am curious... why would you want a magnetic board ?? What is so special about it ?? I'm happy if the pins go in mine !!
  2. Hi Chaps, Proops Bros. Have them in stock usually.       You might find this Attractive... www.proopsbrothers.com
  3. I think garry is right Stephen, If your pal can't or won't listen there really isn't much you can do to help him ( you could show him these postings though) It does sound as if he has chosen the wrong hobby doesn't. Best of luck matey.
  4. Andy, What kind of problems do you have with silversoldering, I do quite a lot of it and maybe I could help you out.
  5. Hi All, If any of you fancy a shot at prop. carving  I still have the WOO'S article.   Or you can look it up for yourselves  August 1994 is the RCME issue to look for.
  6. Hi Andy, I not only suggest that you try carving your own props I can assure you that I do it ! As simon says it isn't easy but it can be done if you follow the "WOO'S" instructions. I can't tell which issue the article was featured but my offer to send you a copy still stands.    My first attempts were not up to much but with a bit more practice I seem to have improved. Give it a go and be prepared to experience a few failures. Success will come with practice. Let me know if you want to have a go and I'll dig out the article for you  ( I made several copies just in case another brave soul wanted to try it )
  7. Myron, you are right on the money there, starting with a kit is the best way to go, having learned how to build a kit properly will be useful later. Don't try to run before you have learned how to walk springs to mind here.
  8. Hi Paul, Have you thought about carving your own props. Brian Winch wrote an excellent article a while back in RCME. If you want a copy send me a PM with your postal address and I'll send you one. Is this any help ??
  9. Hi John, You can carry out a repair with " DEVCON" I have used it in the past and it's OK.  You could even mix a small quantity of alloy filings into it as well. Is this any help ?
  10. Hi DW, I am surprised that you have had a problem with Addlestone Models... I have always found them most helpful... as has been suggested by  another forumite you may have been the victim of  " a bad day " Not much of a reason though is it !  I agree with you as regards the shop in Ewell, they seem to have someone making up the prices as they go along.
  11. Hi Ken, Given the high price of glow fuel you might just be right, many flyers are turning to petrol engines , petrol is much cheaper than glow fuel and the added bonus is that petrol engines are not as thirsty for fuel. Electric power is OK, no fuel proofing and no oily mess. I guess we shall just have to wait and see !!
  12. Hi Erfolg, Alex W has just shown us how he uses thread to make hinges in his latest article in RCME... I fear that you are slipping old son !!!
  13. My club always publishes obits. But I will never  to get read mine .Edited By Allan Jordan on 27/07/2009 19:14:50
  14. Hi Myron. Your'e right on the button with this one mate ! I always fix things rather than buy new if I can. It's always been that way for me !! The time is coming when we shall all have to repair instead of buy new !! Allan
  15.  HI Peter, Follow Peter Miller's advice, he knows what he's talking about. I shouldn't worry too much about the possible demise of us "balsa bashers" we will always be around mate. As for round fuel tanks try [email protected]
  16.  Hi Brian, Gerard Feeney wrote a very good article on brown paper covering in RCME some while ago ( cant remember when it was though) I tried it on very thin plywood and it worked OK. I used thinned PVA glue. When it was dry I gave it a coat of water based varnish to seal it and rubbed it down with 800 grade w/d paper. Took paint rather well after that. Give it a try.  PS. Glue the shiny side to the wood. Any help ?
  17.  Hi Andrew, Having dealt with SLEC for many years now they will always be the one I would reccomend to you.
  18.  Hi Robby, Welcome to the forum, Please don' t think that thisw forum or RCME is only for people who have a lot of experience in the hobby . We were all " beginners " at one time. This is for any one and everyone interested in model aircraft. If you look at all of the postings on the forum you will soon realize that there are other interests as well. Don't be afraid to ask any question you need an answer for. There will always be someone able to provide answer.  Regards Allan
  19.  Hi Chris, I got split cane from a local furniture restorer. As I only wanted a small amount I didn't have to pay for it.
  20.  Hi Mark. What a good Idea. I built a small diesel years ago. At the moment I'm trying to finish an engine which was given me in a part machined state. It should be spark ign. but I think it is going to end up as a glow motor.I'll have to see if I can get some photo's organized.
  21.  Hi Doug, Seems to me to be time to change your supplier. I think the weights idea might be the safe option for rectification though.    Glad to see Myron back in harness too.   Regards to all. Allan..
  22.  To-day is a special day. The Media seem to have forgotten it !    64 years ago to-day WW2 ended in Europe !!   How  soon we forget !!
  23.  Hi John, If I were in your position I would be inclined to accept John Haytree''s offer. By to-days standards it seems quite a reasonable one to me. I wouldn't  fancy  making it for that kind of money on a commercial basis. Having made piston rings in the past I can tell you that it is quite an involved operation. What you have to ask yourself is " do I want to keep this engine running ? Regards Allan
  24.  Hi Bodger, ITry this.www.TracyTools.com  I use them quite a lot , very good service and the prices are good. If you order a Catalouge you will find that the back page has lots of useful info. on threads and drill sizes.
  25.  Eric, Your posting re. eating handcleaner was rather subdued, I fully expected you not to believe me ! Just goes to show what a strange lot us aeromodellers are !!
