Have recently posted a car handbook to a friend of mine in the south of Spain, the handbook was £12 and it cost £10.20 to post it from the UK non tracked to Spain. About a week later my pal had a card from the Spanish post office put through his door telling him he had to collect the package from his local post office and there was a charge of 23 Euro to pay !! Apparently this was for the full price of the UK postage (so he'd paid the postage twice !!) and for the full value of the item inside (I had declared the £12 value on the postage note). This has got to be illegal to charge people twice for the postage and the value of the item inside !!! I know there are one or two forum members living in the EU, just wondered if anyone else had come across this rip off. Cheers.

Forum members' new models: Let's see them.
Martin Arnold 1 replied to Paul Marsh's topic in All Things Model Flying
Just finished my latest plane a WOT4 PRO, been after one of these for some time, anyway found a BNIB artf, they came with an Irvine 39 but mine was just the airframe. Being a four stroke only type these days decided to fit a Saito 62 which is about 45gms heavier than the Irvine, managed to save most of that with a modded engine mount (most of it is missing in order to get the motor far enough back !!) a cheapo light weight spinner and a smaller fuel tank. Very pleased that the AUW is 4lbs 2.5ozs which is about 3 oz lighter than the spec. The thing with these was that even with the Irvine motor, they came out very nose heavy, think they did so much lightning at the back, they should have made the nose shorter !! To get the CG right on mine I mounted the Futaba 3003 Elevator and rudder servos at the back.... Test flight this weekend, with a bit of luck !! -
Hi Guys. Not having much luck trying to find servo horns for some Turnigy s3317m servos, these are metal geared 26gm servos with 24t splines and 4.85mm output shaft..... Any ideas. Cheers.

Bit of a longshot here, but does anybody happen to have a BNIB Wot 4 Pro ARTF (the one that came with an Irvine 39 and transparent red covering) / Cheers.

But why have the OS four strokes become so expensive even compared to say a Saito 82 (better motor anyway in my opinion) at around £250. It was not that many years ago that Saitos were more expensive that OS.... What's going on ??

Will hasten add i do not use this for cooking !!! And not inside the house !! I run it in my workshop/garage on high heat, the antifreeze reaches about 130c from memory and the vapors are rather unpleasant, but as you can see the results are impressive it left that well caked up silencer looking like new with no abrasive used at all just a good scrubbing with a tooth brush three or four times during the process. As you can see there is no discolouring of the part either, apparently this is because the antifreeze is used without any dilution, if it is diluted the part can darken.

Have had great success cleaning glow motors using Ethylene Glycol antifreeze (the old blue stuff) in a hot slow cooker for few hours, the gunk just brushes of with a toothbrush afterwards and it doesn't harm the original finish. Here is a before and after treatment, this had about 5 hours in the pot.

I would have thought the hot oil method is a very inefficient and messy way of trying to move the liner, when enough heat from a heat gun will usually have it out. With the heat gun you need to get the cylinder hot enough for the old burnt on deposits to start smoking.

Futaba challenger combo instruction sheet.
Martin Arnold 1 replied to Rich Griff's topic in All Things Model Flying
Have about 6 old Challengers knocking about, most of them have died from the dreaded black wire into the switch. Thought I must have a manual for one but can't find it. In fairness you don't really need a manual for one of these they a very simple radio. -
Hi guys, does anyone know where I can buy a "T" shape two piece alloy motor mount, have had several over the years but need another one for a project and can't find one at the moment.... Any ideas ?

Does size matter? (Servos)
Martin Arnold 1 replied to Graeme Evans's topic in All Things Model Flying
Hi Graeme, I presume this an IC powered 7.5lb pattern model, if so I would be more concerned using small servos with only two mounting screws and would be looking at standard size four point mounted servos, for a model this size and weight. -
Sounds to me like you are running a bit rich on the high end needle, I would try peaking it out with the aircraft's nose at about 60 degrees and see how it goes then.

Yes Brian you're not far out there, acquired mine in the early 2000's from a club mate who used it as a test bed for a Saito twin, can't remember which one. The were sold by YT International in Walsall West Midlands, who used to do a very good range of ARTF models back in those days, Had a Gee Bee Racer off them with a Saito 180..... But that is a complete other story.

The Saito 82 is an excellent motor, just think it's not big enough for the Magic 90, yes it will fly it, but not with the sort of authority the model deserves. Not into petrols myself, so not sure on that one, currently run all four stroke glow about 17 or so Saitos with the odd OS and YS. Have to say it really tickled me when I came back from flying my Magic 90 and looked at your post, I was only saying at the field the that they were "Unobtainium" !! And there's yours, so there are at least two still alive !!
-
Remember this is a large funfly at 6ilb 12oz with 62in span and 19in cord, giving 8.18 square feet wing area !! To put it in perspective I have a Saito 82 APC 13x4W prop, in an old Irvine Wild Card wich is 4lb 5oz 52in span and 15 inch cord giving 5.41 square feet wing area.
-
Hahaha, what a coincidence !! By shear luck I have been actually flying mine today !! It's a YT International Magic 90 Funfly, bit like a Cougar 2000 on steroids. A 14x7 on a funfly is all wrong anyway, you don't want to overspeed them..... It's all about grunt. Mine is powered by a Saito 115 with an APC 16x4W prop, It is going to be very marginal with an 82 and the best prop for that on a funfly is probably a 13or14x4w. I just don't think the 82 has enough grunt for that plane, used to have a Saito 91 in mine but it was a bit marginal pulling out of the prop hang, hence the 115 which is brilliant, the motor is giving 18.12lbs of static thrust at 9700rpm and the model is 6lbs 12oz all up. The photos were taken by a club mate today !!!

Yes see what you mean on that, think it works on the theory that the seal isn't perfect and oil will get through and replace the grease in the bearing anyway, similar to a Saito double sealed front bearing. Just as an aside, most Saito singles come from the factory with a shielded rear bearing and a double sealed front, the oil can easily pass through the shielded rear, as above for the front.
-
Exactly which old fun fly model, most of these are best with fine pitch prop as you don't want to over speed the airframe.

Taken from the part number on your exploded view. https://www.rcjapan.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=80_413_429&products_id=12730

Pretty sure the only gasket on this motor is the head gasket/shim, everything else is a machined fit.
-
The Os 52 Surpass came as new with a double sealed rear bearing and I believe the front was too.

Weston Park and Much Marcle shows
Martin Arnold 1 replied to Martin Arnold 1's topic in All Things Model Flying
Would imagine that will leave Much Marcle a bit sparse on traders and punters then. -
It would appear that these two shows are on the same weekend 4-5 September, can someone confirm this, not good if they are.
