  1. I think all delivery services have their off days ! I was home in the garden waiting in my 1 hour time slot for a parcel from DPD, when I saw a van pull up, the guy walked up next door's garden path with a parcel that looked like one I was expecting, said " parcel for you, sign here please" which she did, and he walked off without even checking the signature, address, or the name. Yes you guessed it, it was my parcel ! Lucky I saw it or it would have been still at next door till they had noticed it was mine. Neighbour thought one of her lads had ordered something, so thought nothing of it. Needless to say this isn't the first time a parcel of mine has gone to the wrong address ..........
  2. I don't have a problem with trees ... It's the ground I have a issue with, the ground broke my expensive carbon prop and damaged the cowl when my model fell out of the tree !!
  3. I watch model flying on youtube in my workshop. I don't like being too far a way when charging lipos.
  4. I used to use Norton AV, as mentioned earlier it also slowed my PC down, not only that, it gets deep into your system files. When I decided I didn't like it and tried to remove it , it was nigh on impossible to get rid of every last bit of it. Ads still kept popping up trying to get me to take up a subscription again, scaremongering me with all kind of nasties that could infect my PC if I didn't put Norton back on. In the end I had to format, and do a clean windows re-install. I now use AVG Free. Had no problems since.
  5. Yep, the possibilities are endless 'She Who Invokes Mental Brown Outs'. I would certainly have a mega 'mental brown out' if my nearest and dearest took my gear to a jumble sale !
  6. Agreed it is confusing, I've edited twice now lol !   Depends on the build, I would say on balsa sheeted sides, then formers having the grain across the shortest length is strongest. Edited By Ronaldo on 04/05/2018 23:54:55 Edited By Ronaldo on 05/05/2018 00:01:39
  7. Glad you found a pair, hope they work for you. I wear these kind **LINK** but I certainly didn't get them from China ! Can't find a UK supplier on ebay as yet, but there must be some around selling in the UK, that's how I got mine. They can fit over prescription glasses and give me all round protection from the sun at all angles. Also keeps the wind out of the sides, which tend to make my eyes water on windy days or when I'm slope soaring.
  8. I've used good quality anti bloom cellulose thinners successfully with solarlac. (never used on plastic, so not qualified to comment on that, but I will take note of your advice Engine Doctor) The cost of a 500ml can of solarlac thinners could buy 4 times as much decent quality cellulose thinners ! That's if solarlac thinners is still available ........ even the solarlac paint is getting a little "thin" on the ground now (pun intended) Just one point to note, ... I don't know if it was just my mix, but once thinned with cellulose thinners it doesn't like to be left standing in a jar for more than a couple of days, .... it sort of went, ... erm 'funny', even when I stirred it up again. Now I thin just enough for what I need at the time so I can use it all on the same day or the next, no longer than that, and it sprays on great ! Edited By Ronaldo on 29/04/2018 19:34:25
  9. I'm indoors in my nice warm and dry workshop, I've started my 'winter project' model early. Too wet to fly here, even the moles that invade our club field are coming up for air and wearing snorkels !!
  10. Water water everywhere, .......... I'm sure I saw salmon leaping on my flying field ! ........
  11. I've never used primer on solartex or any other fabric covering, not sure why you would unless it was to fill the weave on a solid sheeted surface ? Even fine wet and dry would eventually cause the fabric to 'fuzz' as you cut through the primer. I have used 'T' cut on painted areas of solartex with no problems, maybe if you re-primed and used 'T' cut, possibly that would also remove the 'fuzz' ? Just a thought.

    BBC Weather

I haven't had much luck at all flying this year due to the ever changing inclements. I find the BBC weather forecast changes their minds day to day, even hour to hour. Checked one morning last week, said it was going to be dry with sunny intervals for my location. So I packed my models and gear into the car, got to the field, unloaded, and it started pouring down ! ...... I thought hang on a sec', got my phone out, checked online again, and sure enough in the time it took driving to the field they had changed the forecast again to heavy rain. Well at least it was accurate at that moment in time, but you could hardly call it a 'forecast'. I'm convinced the BBC weather men/women just open the office window, hold out their hand, and that's their forecast ! Oh well, .... back to my workshop to build more 'hangar queens' ...........
  14. Noted Don thanks. Will be building the 2 'BUSA' kits first before I try any others. Plus the M R camel is considerably more expensive than the BUSA camel ........ will be checking for any online build blogs for comparisons between the 2.
  15. Indeed 'The Internet in action' ! Thanks for the input guys, I will take note of your advice and experiences with that type of paint  (handy stuff that 'T cut', saved me from a 'beating' off swmbo lol ) . After years of the usual ... 'Extras', 'Yak', 'Sukhoi' types of models, both kits and ARTF, and a recent vintage model, Ben Buckle's 'Great News' , ... I now have an urge to build a couple of WW1 planes and bought a BUSA 1/4 scale Nieuport 28 kit, and a BUSA 1/4 scale Fokker D8 kit cheap on ebay, .... a Mick Reeves Sopwith Camel could also be on my future 'wish list', ...... and so now my need for camouflage paint. Not decided yet as to what 'type' of paint to use supertigrefan, as my main quest is finding ready mixed 'camouflage' colours, in reasonably sized tins. All I have found so far is the smaller tins meant for plastic scale models. I don't even mind using aerosol cans as long as it's in at least a 400ml can, in the colours I need, and it doesn't start to cost 'silly' money. I also have a compressor, spray gear, and guns, done my own paint mixing, so I know my way around with painting models, but as you say Bob, been down that road and possibly I'm getting lazy in my old age lol, yes it would be a lot simpler just to have the right colour in a 'rattle' can and chuck it away when empty, with no cleaning up to do. I'm still open to ideas if any of you know of any 'ready mixed' camouflage paint suppliers. Cheers   Edited By Ronaldo on 13/04/2018 18:48:17
  16. May be of interest to some. I was looking for decent sized cans of camouflage spray paint for a BUSA Nieuport 28 I'm planning on starting. Have any of you tried these military paint suppliers ? They also supply aerosol cans which would be handy. Seem a bit pricey for a can, but not found any cheaper elsewhere. **LINK** Edited By Ronaldo on 13/04/2018 09:43:56
  17. Posted by Geoff Sleath on 03/04/2018 16:34:38: Congrats on a lovely model. If she flies as well as she looks (and I'm sure she will) then it'll be a trouble free maiden. What is the drive train? motor, esc, battery. I'm always interested in other people's selections having done a few myself. I use a similar cowl attachment method with pegs into the firewall but attach with 3mm set screws accesses from the rear via the battery hatch. Geoff Thanks Geoff and everyone else for your comments (not sure I can wait till July 19th BEB, may have to fit floats for my club field lol) I'm using a tried and tested Prop Drive 5050 580k outrunner from Hobbyking, an 80amp Turnigy Plush esc with a separate castle 10amp bec, 5s lipo, and a 15x8 prop. This same setup works very well in another model, but I'm told it may be a little overpowered in the Great News, will have to see.
  18. Thanks Pete. Now waiting for sunshine and all the puddles in my club field to dry up. Bob Cosford , yep blue and yellow goes well together. Great looking model you got there !
  19. Thanks DaveyP. I covered it with vintage yellow solartex, gave it 2 coats of 50/50 thinned dope. The paint is Halfords acrylic car paint, Fiat Capri Blue. A very nice paint, but was a bit expensive as you don't get much paint in a can, but once I started I had to carry on, also I loved the colour. Will look for a cheaper paint on my next build. Then finally I sprayed it all with 1 coat of clear lacquer. As you may know, sadly solartex is no longer in production , but luckily I have enough left for another couple of models. After that I will have to find an alternative covering.
  20. Finished my Ben Buckle 'Great News', modded for electric. Cowl and lipo battery hatch held on with magnets. Cowl removal allows full access to motor and esc. The tailplane is now fixed rather than held on with rubber bands as per plan. I fitted a closed loop rudder which was simpler than bending awkward angles on a pushrod to reach the rudder horn The 'Great News' on the wing was done by printing it onto A4 self adhesive inkjet vinyl, cutting out the letters by hand with a scalpel and new blade to make a 'stencil' masking film. Then sprayed over with the same blue paint trim. Now just waiting for some half decent weather to take to the sky !
