  1. It may be easier to repair an electric trainer than one soaked in oil, but if it has been properly built and maintained, and is cleaned after every flying session (a matter of a minute), why would it be oil-soaked? I fly only IC and have never had any problem with oil ingress. But, then, I'm the sort of OCD dinosaur who always cleans garden and DIY tools before I put them away in their designated storage area! Good luck if you prefer electric flight - I just know it will always be IC for me, and I'm glad to have learned when it was the only option. Running-in and setting up a new engine is an essential part of the hobby for me, and I've never been unable to fly because of engine problems.
  2. How do we know he was attempting to photograph mortal remains? He may have been - but the article makes no mention of that. Edited By Prop Nut on 02/01/2015 14:37:42 Edited By Prop Nut on 02/01/2015 14:45:22
  3. We get hot cross buns all year round in Tesco, and you can tell when it's Christmas because they have Easter eggs on sale.
  4. Are you a BMW driver, by any chance, Robert?
  5. Some of the cars designed by engineers would have been very much better if they had been designed by accountants!
  6. You could try Anthony at Orion Mouldings - Here. He made me several fibreglass engine cowls recently, which were pretty good and not expensive.
  7. I've had a SIP 16" scroll saw for years and have always found it excellent for hobby and light domestic use. It's currently selling for around £130.
  8. I was attracted by a Canon digital camera for sale on Amazon, supposedly reduced from £1,699 to £699 for Black Friday, until I Googled it and found retailers with a year-round selling price of £619. It's all smoke and mirrors.
  9. Link doesn't work. Was this the one on Sarah Beeny's programme recently?
  10. Imported Americanisms: Free RCM&E tax 'disk' - should be disc Driver's License - should be Driving Licence
  11. Six channels will cover most requirements for sports flying, but if you want to move on to something more demanding another two or three channels can be helpful. Get the best you can afford now (consider second-hand, if necessary) but, whatever you go for, do handle it first to be sure it's comfortable for you in use. My own experience is that you instinctively know when you have the right one in your hands, and it may not be the most expensive option.
  12. On the subject of TV presenters, why do newsreaders have to say, for example, 'We now go over to our correspondent Fred Bloggs, who is in Invercockaleekie for us'? Of course he's there for them, or he wouldn't be stood in front of a camera, so why use such pointless superfluity?
  13. He didn't ask because he (wrongly) assumed you'd know that it's a universal fitting - or it is when you cut off the pesky tab. I found out the same way as you!
  14. At last, a use for my Dremel!
  15. It started last week Peter, and it's well worth watching, especially the so-called 'off airport operations'. So now, out of 120 TV channels of total dross there's finally one programme to look forward to.
  16. I hope we all will. It's little enough.
  17. I bought a Dremel online, without realising how clumpy and heavy it is - big mistake. I went back to my old Minicraft that has served me well for sixteen years, so I know what I'd choose if I had to replace it.
  18. I've never had good results with Formula 560 or RC Modeller's glue. It lacks viscosity, gets everywhere and doesn't 'grab'. No doubt that's down to my incompetence, but I gave up on it. I use double-sided clear tape, as per Spikey, with tiny self-tapping screws for extra security; they look almost scale and you can remove the canopy, if necessary.
  19. I used to think the furry Mylar hinges were a little 'iffy' and cutting slots a pain, but experience has shown them to be very reliable so I use them in most builds now. Like Cymaz I also use flat, pinned hinges and also Robart barbed hinges, where you just need to drill a hole.
  20. No matter how good the seller, I can never achieve that sort of timescale because our post doesn't come before noon, and often not until 4.30 pm. Good on Farnell, though, and on RM - for a change.
  21. If you've ever had to deal with people from local authorities C8, you will know that something as demanding as getting an apostrophe in the right place is well beyond most of them. They take the line of least resistance and always leave them out.
  22. We may well be liable for libel if what we say is untrue!
  23. I've had excellent service from Inwood for almost fifteen years, so this comes as a surprise. You don't mention if you have 'phoned them, but it may be more effective than email. I don't know the Swift, but the Boomerang and Tutor are excellent and I still regularly fly the latter. Give them a call and ask them to sort out the problem; I'm sure they will.
  24. Mine is identical to Cymaz's link. Fuselages are along one wall of my insulated shed/workshop and wings crosswise, opposite the door end, hung on 1/2 inch dowel glued and screwed to 1 3/4 x 3/4 inch battens, then covered with pipe insulation foam. Hangar rash doesn't happen anymore.
