  1. Thanks Don for the info and advise, just ordered a bottle of deluxe super phatic should be with me next week.
  2. Happy to take you up on your kind offer Geoff. I'll try to send you a message
  3. Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain piston and liners for MK3 Irvine Engines at a reasonable price? I checked Just Engines and they are £38 +p&p. Ripmax are showing piston & liner sets for Mk2 40 @ £13.50 (sounds more like it to me) I wonder would they fit a MK3 40?? Some years ago I bought a piston & liner set on ebay at a good price (it was new) but only ever saw them once. Flying from tarmac I think it is easier to pick up some foreign matter? I did have a problem in the past where I had a deep score on an Irvine piston, being a savage I carefully filled in the crack on the piston with DB weld! I reckoned the piston & liner were useless so may as well give it a try. It actually worked for a while, but not forever! I can imagine this will entertain some forum members. I can take it!!!
  4. A week has passed since I first had trouble. Feeling a bit better but still having trouble, bad cough etc, I'm on an inhaler plus steroids to reduce the inflammation in my lungs and stop the wheezing. Think it's back to the pva for me!
  5. Can agree David, takes time to really "peak" as for the mucus membranes, mine were sore for a few days although that is now gone thankfully
  6. I realise this thread hasn't been used for some years but I've had a cyanoacrylate problem. Six days ago I was building a wing and used superglue to glue the ribs in. It caused me breathing problems which got worse over the weekend. Six days later and a lot of sleep lost I called at the doctor's (today) to ask for an appointment. Due to my obvious breathing problem they said if I had time to wait 45/60 minutes a doctor would see me. The doctor after examination put me on a nebuliser for a while which helped. She informed me that I've had a bad reaction to the fumes bringing on an asthma like attack and that my lungs are inflamed. Perhaps I shouldn't have waited six days before visiting the doctor but I thought it would pass. I was given advise from doctor, if I cough up any blood A&E immediately and don't use cyno again. Hopefully the drugs help. Has anyone else had a severe reaction to cyanoacrylate?
  7. Tim Flyer I'm a bit like you and like a good old fashion paper copy. Couple of years ago I changed to digital only, really didn't like it, when the year was up I went back to paper copy. I don't store the paper copies as I though I could get them online. Last week I went to look for an article in the archive to find out as I have a paper copy order I can no longer get into them. Think that's a bit tight after having a yearly subscription for some years. Should have kept the old copies but didn't realise the change would come.
  8. £33 for adult members, we have a huge tarmac area (originally a commercial airport) with locked toilets on site (members have a key). Clubhouse with heater and gas burner for tea/coffee. Storage container, locked gate and plenty of space for car parking (all on tarmac), no long walks. Unlimited access 6 days per week (area used on Sunday afternoons for a market). Even have a "chucky wagon" (mobile food) on site Monday - Friday within a 100yds.
  9. I think it is true that electric is taking over however I also find that sad. I have no problem with people flying electric but for me I would miss the ic engine. Some say there is a lot of preparation, well you had to learn to fly and so you need to learn to set an engine up to run properly. I think there is great pleasure in engines and setting them up, some days they do frustrate you but I find lot of pleasure when you hear a four stroke just pottering past in a WW1 bi-plane or a two stroke with instant throttle and a sound tick over. I know there is the mess but I don't care, I fly two strokes, four strokes from 30 to 150 (I even have 2 laser engines ) and 15-30cc petrol. I have to admit I don't like the smell of petrol but they are lovely in the air. Each to his own I say, I have just added two diesels to my engines, a 1cc and 2.5cc, I knew nothing about diesel but after much flicking and experimentation I got both to run, just couldn't believe there is much excitement in getting an electric motor running. However each to his own.
  10. Thanks Denis I appreciate your timely help in this matter. Looks like they are 5mm; since putting up the post I checked the voltage going to the LED which is 5v.
  11. Rather than start a new thread I'll try to add to this one first. I have Rcexl Opto Gas Engine Kill Switch V2.0 (full title), the bright LED is has broken and I would like to fit a new one. Anyone inform what type of LED to purchase please? I can then solder it on.
  12. Just found tis post again, it flies beautifully and I'm so pleased with it. Powered by an OS46 with 11x4 prop, goes vertical for quite a while.
  13. I have had a Taranis radio for a couple of years and just getting the hang of it now. (Hasn't been used much it the 9D Plus) On Friday I took an Astro Hog off using my Taranis Radio. When it had climbed out as normal and I went to turn it suddenly went "RSSI LOW" I immediately headed back and landed without any problem. I am unsure what to do not as i was afraid to fly it again. I presume the RSSI is pre set? Any wise words of help will be appreciated
  14. Thanks Peter That is where I have it set but it's always good to have it checked. Understood and appreciated.
  15. Peter I picked up a beautifully built and covered Bootlace at our swap meet. It would be much appreciated if you would advise me of the CG point.
  16. I fly mine on an ASP 30 four stroke, need to be careful on take off but plenty of power once in the air. Original had a 40 two stroke in it and felt it was over powered.   It's RET with the dihedral. Edited By Derek Stevenson on 19/03/2018 16:56:59
  17. Good to have another flyer on board, you have come to the right forum to get the answers you need.
  18. I'm considering obtaining or making stands to be kept at the site for club members to use. They can't be left outside on a permeant basis but we do have a container in which to store them when not in use. I'm looking for ideas if you find that you have good stands at you're club or even plans of stand which would be good for site use. Need to be heavy enough for constant club use but not too heavy as the will need to be move from container to pits. All help appreciated.
  19. Thanks Percy, unfortunately Masons Models no longer supply the short kit. They do intend to make a full laser cut kit which is not in production yet. I also think the new kit will be a lot more expensive, probably too much for my pensioner friend!
  20. Simon, really enjoyed your build blog and looking forward to hearing about the maiden flight. Hope all goes well.
  21. One of our club's senior members is looking for a Chippahawk short kit. Has anybody got one which they would be happy to part with?. I'd love to help our past chairman find one!
  22. One of our older members is looking for a Chippahawk short kit if anyone has one and is will to sell? Edited By Derek Stevenson on 28/12/2017 17:40:18
  23. Posted by Geoff Sleath on 30/11/2017 16:15:27: "I needed some 4 guage13mm long self tappers for the clamps to hold the 5mm piano wire undercarriage struts on my Mew Gull. With no model shop handy and I couldn't think of a big enough order to make buying from Modelfixings worth the bother I went to Wilkos. They had what I want called chip board screws. They were £1 for 35 13mm - expensive but I only wanted a few. Strangely, they also stocked 1/2" 4s but they were £1 for 20! Now the difference in length between 1/2" and 13mm is about 0.3mm. I just wonder why they stock both sizes but wonder more why the Imperial dimensioned ones were nearly double the price." Perhaps you were screwed on the price of the imperial ones!!!     Edited By Derek Stevenson on 06/12/2017 14:25:09
  24. Some in our club also say don't touch the low end, it shouldn't be touched. I normally reply, you would wonder why the factory put a thread on it,
