DW models Astro Junior .

Day 2 saw the fuselage built, less a bit of sheeting, and the tail feathers added, what a pretty thing she is . Edited By Rob Fairweather 1 on 25/03/2020 10:05:21 -
DW models Astro Junior .
Rob Fairweather 1 replied to Rob Fairweather 1's topic in Sport, Aerobatic and 3D kits
I'm a convert to the joys of Super'phatic now -
Whilst looking for kits to build during this necessary home isolation period (after bagging a Flair Harvard kit on eBay ) I came across this pretty little thing on the 4 Max website. A 'modern' laser cut tribute to the Astro Hog at 1400 span, and designed for electrickery. the smallest kit box arrived, with a bewildering amount of superb laser cut bits inside, plus wheels and some hardware. In a separate box was the 4 max recommended motor, servos and Super'phatic for the build. anyone who remembers Pilot or Marutaka kits as being lovely 'jigsaw' type builds, hang on to your hats . . . . You ain't seen nothing yet ! Day 1 saw the obligatory studying of drawings and photo build explanations ( needed for the numbers on the many bits). Then work commenced.

There is the beginning . my new ( curve flattened at top, sides built flatter) cowl and fuselage design. the new cowl, using .8mm ply, 3mm balsa and light ply has come out at 81g as to the standard 109g weight of the spun alloy kit version . hatch showing in the top decking is for vertical lipo inserting. SE 2.5a perhaps Edited By Rob Fairweather 1 on 18/03/2020 14:10:27 Edited By Rob Fairweather 1 on 18/03/2020 14:11:41 -

Well, it has begun. Front fuselage bit done, rear lattice work has begun. battery box to go between F1 and 2, removable hatch made. i managed to find some Flair Bristol Fighter roundals on eBay that fit nicely over the wing. seriously thinking of moving the front U/C mounting rearwards to give a more SE5 look but to leave wheel centres in exactly the same place . . . .any comments ? Pics will be forthcoming , I promise . -

SE5a stand way off scale version of the fuselage drawn . . . . . Now the wife has decided she likes the Fokker cowl ! looking at moving the front undercarriage strut rear wards a bit, but leaving wheel centres the same. Edited By Rob Fairweather 1 on 01/03/2020 12:09:26 -

Thankyou all for the comments. is it ok to saw a couple of inches off the back end Cuban 8 ? Nice one Jeff. PPPPPP is a maxim I've always used Don. i dont want to change the flying characteristics at all fly boy. Peter, at 66 I'm not sure about that, I'd have trouble remembering what I'd done ! -
Being an inveterate messer, I'm tempted to modify a Maggie right from the outset. my last one was built from the mk1 kit, a long time ago with an OS 48 surpass, I loved it, but it looked foreign. This time, from a plan only and will be electric ( that's upset purists already, sorry) now . . . . I've ordered a cowl and mods to make it a bit Bristol M1 are a possibility of course. . . . . . But . . . . . How about not fitting the cowl, cutting the firewall up and giving it a more SE5/Airco ( DB sport and scale 'old bill' ) front end ? The rear fuselage could be built up a bit to fatten the height ( always thought it was a bit long and skinny from the side view. not to change any important dimensions as in empennage overall area and distance from nose or rigging angles of course. Any comments from the experts here, good or bad ? Edited By Rob Fairweather 1 on 29/02/2020 10:11:28

A +1 for the saliva/spit solution , been using that method since 1966.

Posted by Colin Carpenter on 22/02/2020 17:44:15: Six days flying in 3 months here in East Somerset. Too wet ! Windy ! Foggy when it's calm. Can't remember a winter like it since I started playing with toys in 69 !😵😵😵 Colin Edited By Colin Carpenter on 22/02/2020 17:44:51 Colin, now be honest, we are far too young to have begun playing with toys in 69 !

Having lost our local model shop, it would certainly make life easier when having to order wood online. -
How wings generate lift
Rob Fairweather 1 replied to David P Williams's topic in All Things Model Flying
Apologies Nigel R. That was a Flippant comment from me. Whenever I see a bunch of learned gentlemen getting together to debunk a theory(and replace it with their own thinking ) global catastrophe or whatever , there always seems to be someone financing them (normally to increase sales or whatever) who is also making money. -

Got to agree with Tony on this one , as long as my models do not fall from the air, and my 787 continues to fly me to my holiday destination, what do I care if a bunch of scientists are trying to prove/disprove age old theorem to enable themselves of big monetary grants that are no doubt available to them. or am I getting cynical in my old age ? scale gliders for sale
Rob Fairweather 1 replied to Roo Hawkins's topic in Scale Gliders and Aerotowing
AS K8, Flair kit , on eBay at the moment. £365 or thereabouts. -
Another contender might be a Ford Escort diesel van. so underpowered as to be unbelievable. couldnt agree more on the Astra though . . . . .was given one as a company car once, in its defence it was brand new, but . . . . . .

Lovely Fury, quite well timed to coincide with the planned mass build. The pilot of this one has helped me and a lot of other club members a great deal over the last 20 or so years. Nice one Bob. Edited By Rob Fairweather 1 on 08/08/2017 09:36:00

CIF oven cleaner, the one in the green trigger type bottle. No smell no burning fingers. The plastic modellers use this to strip paint off of their models. I had great success stripping a 1/6 scale tank of Tamiya acrylic paint with it.
