The early morning flying club
GrumpyGnome replied to Mike Stevens's topic in All Things Model Flying
Hi Ackers, Don't the locals complain at the noise so early in the morning ? I never liked to fly my Slinger or Razor in the park 'cos they were pretty noisy .............. I'm an early riser so try to get to the park on the way to work before the dog-walkers arrive. I fly my Rogue, Mini-Panic and much rebuilt Mini Ultra-Stik at the mo'.......... lovely. GG -
Awesome weather - how much flying are you getting in?
GrumpyGnome replied to Simon B's topic in Flying Field Reports and Chat
In that case, let me say .................. happy birthday thread ! Due to my bonkers bananas workload at the mo', I've not had a decent flying session for months - just a quick snatched flights in the park a few times on the way to work. Very GG -
Very sad news, my condolences to his family and many friends. He will be sadly missed.

Ideas for articles in RCM&E
GrumpyGnome replied to David Ashby - Moderator's topic in RCM&E Magazine
P.S. how about soem 'follow ups' on review planes to see how they've stoof up to a season's flying.................. are they still 'the bees knees' or do they keep breaking ....... yes, I know we get some on here GG -
Ideas for articles in RCM&E
GrumpyGnome replied to David Ashby - Moderator's topic in RCM&E Magazine
I'd like to see more comparative stuff as well. E,g. let's fly this electric plane with a Hacker motor and ESC, and Thunder Power LiPos; then do it using equivalent 'budget' items of similar spec. Articles on making your ARTF stand out a little (by the general modelling public) would be good - although I guess the general modelling public would need to contribute ! Articles on weathering or scale detailing are good............... Flying field etiquette I agree with an earlier comment - most/all of these have already been done ! GG -
What models will 3s 2200mah Lipo fit into?

Whats a good colour model for winter flying ?
GrumpyGnome replied to Merlin spit's topic in In The Air
Nice one eric ! Most of my planes are red and yellow ........ seem to show up OK GG -
My two-pennurth............... On 35 Meg, I get glitches nearly every flight. Some barely noticeable, some a bit scarey. On my 2.4 equipped planes (Spektrum and GiantCod cheapo set) I can't recall a single glitch. So, in my view, if you get good performance out of 35, stick with it; otherwise move to 2.4. Biggest downside is that the Rx's aren't interchangeable. That I know of ....... GG P.S. I still have two planes in my fleet on 35 meg; number on 2.4 increases each pay-day

Down at the field today
GrumpyGnome replied to David Ashby - Moderator's topic in Flying Field Reports and Chat
Had one of my most memorable flying days ever in the snow a good few years ago. I was flying a Capstan slope soarer in the hills around Ammanford (Swansea area of Wales). Had great fun in the total silence and solitude doing touch and goes in the snow - either skid along the edge and then turn back out or just slide back out over the edge from a 'conventional' approach. Looking back it was a bit silly as I would've been in deep do-doohs if the car had gotten stuck ................ I was just a callow youth then ! GG -
Yep, white here in Halifax. Yesterday/Friday were beautiful and I fancied a quick fly in the snow - wanted to see if my Draken EDF would ROG Discretion got better part of valour when I realised that the farmers track to the filed was likely to be pretty snowy. Of course, all the other members in their 4x4s may have already been theer but then I'd have got stuck in the resulting swamp Must get another baby chopper for the garden. GG

Our strip is fine - mainly thanks to Mowerman (and the electric fence !). Access to the field is fine too; very wet once you actually drive onto the field though - I often park on the stoney bit just inside the gate to avoid churning it up by the pits even more. Spent an enjoyable (?) half an hour on Thursday pressing flat some of the tracks made by the plethora of 4x4's that have driven by the pits - they may be great for getting where you want to be but they don't half make a mess ! Cold, minimal wind todxay so snuck a couple of hours in........ Elektro Junior S - finally got to trim it out properly Mini Ultra Stick - ditto following latest rebuildEasy StreetDrakenMini Panic didn't seem to want to play though - dodgy Rx Beautiful ! GG -
You could do worse than search for an EDo Draken - £105 incl Servos, fan, motor and Esc. Foam and built to a budget and pretty much plug and play. Pretty close to unlimited vertical ......I was going to get a Phase3 F16 until I found one of these. Great fun ! I think EDo do a range based on same fan/motor combination. Straying off topic slightly, i.e. NOT slopers.............. best bang for buck in recent years has been GWS Tiggie - hundreds of pleasurable flights for around £30. For the airframe of course. I fully expect my Wot4 to exceed this in the coming years. Not sure how i'd add the 'fun' factor into this equation though ! GG

My Wotty gets comparatively more air time than my leccies in Winter - no fuss, fill, fly, land, repeat until frozen. Tough as old boots. The Wotty, not me. GG

Hi Erflog, True, true, size is not everything. My focus estate is small enough for my wife to feel comfortable with - easily fits in supermarket parking spaces ; large enough to get wife, small boy, and a full day's flying stuff in; economical (ish - a 2.0 petrol); very comfortable; quite quick; well equipped; very nice to drive; cheap. GG
