  1. Good day today. Took the dogs to the field for a run around at 8:30 and there were already 2 members there ! Threw the balls for a bit, chatted, went home, exchanged dogs for aeroplanes, returned to field for a nice 5 hours or so. Kev flew his big aerobat, but the wind made it a little uncomfortable (supposedly gentle breeze had been blown away by the moderate to stiff breeze!) so he packed it away after a single flight. He also flew his Habu in a spirited, mainly inverted fashion. Also flew his SLEC FunFly but the little 2 stroke was playing up so flight times were limited. Phil brought his Arrows Viper and T33. Flew the Viper (which went home with a nose like Concord), but didn't maiden his T33 in the breeze. Wise move. Ian brought some models and a transmitter with a flat battery....................... Another Ian brought his Acrowot XL, his Pegasus Hurricane, and Bixler with full stabilisation. He chucked his Acrowot about with gusto - it didn't care that it was missing a cowl and a canopy. He did some more engine runs on his Hurricane, and performed some taxi trials but the spongy moss on the runway made it challenging! He did some tuition on the Bixler - his son is really coming on! I flew my free leccy aerobat that everyone calls "interesting" It flies really well. Also made some noise with my petrol Wot4 and Glow powered Double Trouble. All the way to the flying field (4 minutes) I was thinking I'd forgotten something................................. after a couple of hours it twigged - I'd meant to bring my Arrows Hawk! Ah well. It was even dry enough for a 45 minute interruption to mow the runways again. Nice day. Onion Bahjis, Samosas and lager next!
  2. Mostly, they just keep the rain out of my eyes..... and hide the disappointment
  3. That's a shame, but it does look good. And you made it! From scratch! 👏
  4. Oh no. She WILL fly again. Sounds like a simple stall based on your report... where's the cofg now?
  5. I just have non-reactive prescription varifocals - I can't see Reactolite(tm) or similar actually reacting fast enough to he worth the extra cost.... but do most of my flying in sunglasses
  6. Nice one toto. Flying in front of the sun always causes panic..... with experience, you either avoid it, and learn not to panic. As much!
  7. Firmware updates typically contain one or more of....... extra/amended functionality, defect fixes, security updates. Unless you need any if these, "if it 'aint broke, don't fix it" would be my view. That's the same view taken by all major financial institutions, so if it's good enough for them.......
  8. Hope the weather hoods for you toto - windy, wet and cold on the East Yorks coast. Tomorrow looks good though....
  9. Possibly just the two of us.... I keep mentioning it, and the Whirlwind....
  10. Lighter aircraft fly slower, but not necessarily 'better' - in the normal UK windy conditions, some models often stay at home because they don't have the mass to cope with the wind comfortably. As with all things in our hobby, it's a compromise.
  11. @Chris Freeman 3 It was this sentence of yours that I was querying.... "The heavier the airframe the less stable the aircraft will be so a more forward CG will be required". Surely the mass of an aircraft is irrelevant in determining it's balance point ? You may feel more comfortable flying it with a more forward balance point, to avoid stalls (which will occur at a higher airspeed) but that's the only, tenuous, argument I can see. AFAIK, when our slope chums add ballast to their models, they want an unaffected balance point, just more mass..... More than happy to be educated.
  12. As far as I can recall, in the 10-30cc bracket, we only have two 'effectively' silenced petrol engines in the club. Both have pipes that cost £150 or so. I was once told that to effectively silence a petrol engine, you'll spend as much on noise reduction as on the engine itself....... probably a slight exaggeration! Personally, I'd wait until the intended home for an engine is determined before shelling out on a solution that may be unsuitable e.g. a nice shiny pipe may be ok on a sports model, but offend you on a scale model....
  13. Sorry but I don't understand why that should be....... I'm not saying you're wrong, but I don't see the reason why that should be...
  14. Every time I see a nice Corsair, I think "I need one of those"....... (Sadly the twist n turn retracts always put me off. Maybe one for when I've more Warbird experience).
  15. Having mown the runways yesterday, it seemed rude not to use them...... Spent a few hours in the cold and wind, with a sky full of light grey clouds - not good for visibility of a white Wot4! Funny how this one, using the same gear as its predecessor, and set up the same, feels different! Kev P brought yet another different model. And again commented that he should fly it more often..... A nice, if chilly, few hours.
  16. I'm pretty sure you can post pictures of other diciplines on Flickr... 🙂
  17. Managed a couple of flights on the aerobat below, before the wind (and cold!) got the better of me. It's been owned by multiple club members - no idea what it is.... flies well on 3S though. Went back to field to mow later - dodging the showers. Much better, albeit still springy from moss and soft soil.
  18. Some lovely models there. For those that don't know Flickr, you can scroll through the photos vertically, but if you touch one to open it, you get some additional info. And you can move backwards and forwards through the album....
  19. I agree. Sadly we live in times when personal privilege and freedom override common sense, and consideration for others.....
  20. And not without pages of caveats and CYA sentences......
  21. Looks like a reasonably ok weather window opening. Fingers crossed....
