  1. Possibly the wrong thread now, but...... I have! Been glorious up here on the East coast: 5 degrees when I arrived at 9:00, 20 when I left at 15:30; very light Westerly breeze; wall to wall blue sky.... flew my Valiant, Double Trouble, Hawk and Riot. Ate bbq Hula Hoops, drank coffee, and chatted with some chums. We even mowed the runways! Best day for ages!
  2. First step, find a club via BMFA https://bmfa.justgo.com/clubFinder.html Second step, visit the club and chat about what you want to do in short, medium and long term (if you know!) Third step, agree, with an instructor, what's best for you, and how you'll achieve it. I agree with most of what's already been offered.... but if you came to my club, the third step would 'drive' your first steps. And it would be to learn the basics on the club trainer, which happens to be electric, whilst you decide what's next/build or assemble your own model - be it ic or electric.
  3. Me? I have no rib templates. I joined the wings, then drew around 2 servos side by side, then gouged a hole in the foam big enough for the servos, plus a couple of rails to screw them to, plus a little extra for some epoxy-soaked fibreglass. Then I fibreglassed the wing joint.... voila! Easy peasy.
  4. I suspect full throttle will never be needed..... but better to have too much power than too little.
  5. Will be interesting to see if Fantasy GP adjust scores if that's the FIA ruling..... My prediction? An inconsequential penalty for RBR - even jf they were just £1 away from a 'major' breach.
  6. My Wotty had the best/worst of those options..... 2 inboard servos, each attached to a torque rod. Think, on reflection, it was the best option.
  7. Please keep us posted. For xmas, I'm going to get a funfly - either a Limbo Dance (if there any!), a Touch & Go, or maybe a Big Fun......
  8. Hi @Gary Murphy 1 did this get resolved? Might help some others.........
  9. I think it was the Lidl glue gun thread that discussed capacities..... that's gone. Like the glue guns.... 🙂
  10. Either it's not a universal issue, or it's been fixed - all my images, albums and attachments seem ok...... fingers crossed it's all sorted soon
  11. @Eric Streffordare you allowed to post a link to the kits?
  12. E-Flite Corsair fails my "won't break the bank" test 🙂
  13. Arrows T28 would be my advice, followed by Arrows P47 or P51. All 3 are excellent fliers, won't break the bank, and can usually be fixed when the inevitable happens!
  14. Every Arrows plane I have seen has flown really well, including their warbirds and aerobats. It's really difficult to offer advice without knowing what he has now tbh. After all, an 'A' is just a very basic test of competence and there is still a world of learning to do. If he has, for example, a Riot or Wot4, dial up the rates and he'll be able to do his 'B'...... and the world is his oyster - warbirds (T28 is great choice), EDF, aerobats. If he has a slow, floaty, old timer, then he'll most likely need something else before a warbird or Edge/Extra.........
  15. Well done to all those that scored well - that's everyone, as I was last! Stoopid sport.........
  16. Now changed the cheap & noisy tailwheel as well.................... Flies nicely but all these changes are a huge contrast with the Foam E Wots Wot it replaces - that had more than 750 flights and needed just: a) new fuselage (crash) b) new aileron servo c) think I changed the wheels for bigger ones as I flew from some roughish sites.
  17. Buying direct is great if you know what you want/need.......................
  18. Tow? We could all point our planes towards where we want to be and start our engines/motors at same time 😀
  19. Very nice! I only counted down to retirement for a year...... had a HUGE countdown clock on my pc desktop and as the screen saver 🙂 I thoroughly recommend retirement!
  20. Your 'work of art' airframe deserves such a great undercarriage!
  21. So many ways to skin this cat. Entirely agree with MattyB re primary controls - choose either mode 1 or 2; when I learned to fly - slope soaring - I was mode 1 but switched to mode 2 when I started powered aircraft. I only have a few gliders, but all my aircraft are set up the same way: elevator and primary steering on right stick secondary steering and throttle on left stick throttle lock, engine kill, flaps/spoilers/crow, undercarriage, status of all controls, timer reset on consistent switches. Saves trying to remember what switch does what. Once saw a flying chum lose a model when he flicked a switch to lower the undercarriage, which actually cut his ic engine.....
