  1. After the success of our first auction back in October we are pleased to be holding another over the weekend of 7th & 8th January. This will be a bumper auction with 511 lots! We have some fantastic items up for auction with a significant number of engines new in boxes, both collectible vintage and also some very current engines so whether it’s a new piece to expand your collection or something to power your latest project there should be something of interest and a potential bargain to be had. We also have a significant number of kits submitted for auction, again, everything from rare vintage to relatively modern ARTF’s with a smattering of interesting 80s kits in there too. Please note this is a webcast only auction. You can view and download the catalogues at https://nationalcentre.bmfa.org/catologues as well as register to bid at https://nationalcentre.bmfa.org/auction#!/
  2. We are very pleased to be joined by Mark Ellis from the Air Accidents Investigations Branch (AAIB) for our next session on Tuesday 20th December @7pm. Mark will talk about the work of the AAIB and how they interact with the BMFA membership. He will also case study two investigations the AAIB has undertaken recently with model aircraft. This will be followed by a Q&A session with Mark. To join us for what should be a very interesting evening register at the link below. https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_9JDsTBWQRxaQHdWfDXcTNQ
  3. The team that won deserved to, very much the better team for the majority of it. Ref had a very good game too. I don't think anyone can have too many complaints.
  4. Yes, you will get a physical card.
  5. Lasts for 5 years now. Test couldn't be simpler though so no big deal.
  6. The requirement for all examiners to have passed the RCC within the 12 months previous to being ratified was simply so we can ensure that all examiners have remained current from a Regs/Art16 point of view, the RCC will change in line with any changes to the regs and Art16. There was a small amount of shrinkage in the number of examiners when the requirement was brought in as some thought it was too much of an imposition, which was something that was carefully considered. Having had reports from 1 A test candidate who turned up for his A test having passed his RCC but was still told he had to answer the mandatory questions, which when asked where the original ones from 2016 and bore no relation to the current ones and had no mention of At16 which the examiner didn't appear to be even aware of, it was thought that the 10 minutes it takes for anyone who knows their stuff wasn't really any imposition at all to ensure all examiners are up to date.
  7. Couple of points, as far as I am aware the CAA have actually had more registrations than they were expecting, cannot recall what the latest figure is. Also they are not permitted to put up the cost by more than the current inflation rate. So the work the BMFA did in getting the reduction to £9 from £16.50 has ongoing benefits.
  8. Was indeed a temporary glitch, all sorted now.
  9. Classifieds hasn't changed since back in February when the new system was launched.
  10. Without a doubt the best advice when starting with any model aircraft is to join a local club, plenty of advice and assistance on tap too. Join the BMFA or our British Drone Flyers branch which gives you excellent public liability that covers you when flying any model aircraft or drone.
  11. Clubs should have something similar in their constitutions to protect the committee. The BMFA sample club constitution has a couple of clauses that effectively do the same thing, if your club doesn't have it covered i your constitution I would very strongly advise you amend the constitution asap. From the sample constitution.... INSURANCE AND INDEMNITY The club will hold both Civil and Employers Liability Insurance, provided through affiliation to the BMFA. The club will indemnify all committee officers and committee members if they incur any liability on behalf of the club. In the event of a Committee Member being awarded damages or costs in the course of proceedings taken by him in his representative capacity, such damages or costs will belong to the Club and not the Committee Member personally and upon receipt that Committee Member will pay them to the Club Treasurer.
  12. All the directors are unpaid volunteers with the exception of the CEO. The BMFA is non-profit making with budgets tightly controlled.
  13. It's worth remembering you are not buying insurance with the BMFA, you are joining a membership association which has many benefits, just one of which happens to be the very best available liability insurance for recreational model aircraft flying.
  14. Its on now. Vernon Kaye is part of the interview. Definitely worth a listen!
