  1. Wikipedia Daily mail and you will see it for what it really is complete rubbish.
  2. Our club grows every year by a few most are new to the area, coming back to the hobby, very few new young pilots. I'm 40 and there are only one or two younger in the club, plus a few father/son combinations. Its a shame because the club has what I would call a young outlook.   I reckon it is down to attracting young kids, which isn''t easy. You need:   -the father/mother involved/interested -its going to set you back £150-200 minimum. -Also if you fly slope, its cold and normally hard to find, unlike many other hobbies.   Sadley when I started 5-6 years ago I went to a public slope where a few flyers were unfreindly/helpful to newbies, but luckily I joined a really good club with power and slope and haven't looked back.   Most people's first experience of speaking to someone about the hobby is talking to someone at these more public sites. If they see a lot of grumpy old men they are'nt going to take up the hobby. I also think, some not all, model shops missell to new flyers so they spend a lot of money crash and finish the hobby. I've been in one shop where they sold a 3D rtf heli to a complete newbie, I bet he is not in the hobby now!   Also, when you consider a lot of parents(and hey I'm partially guilty of this), do things like brownies/dance class where they drop the kid off and go home for a couple of hours. Or (and I'm not guilty of this) they sit them in front of a play station. The RC hobby  starts  looking like a hassle. I  would agree with Thomas its not like RC cars where you can dive in with a really fast car, you need a trainer then to progress to the faster stuff. Thats unappealing to a lot of people(not just the young)!  There an RC car cvlub by me and the age group is a lot lower.     But hey I've made a start! my daugter is seven, we've got her involved in sailing model yachts and now she wants a go at flying! Fingers crossed this summer that she'll get the bug.
  3. I wouldn't mind a tutorial on soldering, I'm terrible at it!!!
  4. I would also check your fuel tank if above solutions don't work. I fly mainly gliders so my OS46  only gets occasional run out, its normally (Touch wood!) easy to start even after a long lay off. The only times it has played up is due fuel line/tank issues e.g. split line inside tank etc.   I too generally use finger odver exhaust trick!   Good luck
  5. 1) Sussex model centre# 2) Sussex model centre 3) >? 4) Black horse speed air
  6. Just to say I'm other end of the scale from Allan Bowker!! Mine are in Aula glider think its an 800Mah 4 cell. They have taken a lot of stick in terms of side arm launching and no issues.   I would happily use them in a larger aircraft.
  7. I've used them and so far so good, they don't seem to loose much charge at all if you leave them full or half full or empty. I've given mine some real stick and after 3 months there OK.
  8. Ski googles are best bet now winters drawing in!
  9. Ski googles are best bet now winters drawing in!
  10. I know its not UK but leading edge gliders do some fantastic EPP models.
  11. I had an SC 46 and it was wholey unreliable! Stick to OS.
  12. I fly slope and went into power after about 18months flying on slope, first plane was seagull lowwinger great plane but used a cheap glow engine and as a result one to many deadsticks lead to its doom. Then got black  horse, travel air and an OS engine. Very reliable easy to start and not much tinkering. I still fly mainly slope put I reckon if you can fly a coyote you could fly seagull or blackhorse low winger. Just spend more on the engine and get a good one then its all common sense. By the way I use 10% synthetic.
  13. I've built one of these and originally I used 35mhz but switched to 2.4ghz its fine you don't need spoilers. But its surprising how much room the carbon takes up in the fuse so fitting a ballast tube needs some thought In the end I didn't bother.
  14. I visited my local model store to buy a DX7 to be told if I didn't get one in this batch of stock they would be £50 more after Christmas! thats a lot when you consider the overall price and doesn't reflect the drop in the value of the pound or the drop in VAT. I guess we've all been used to cheap stable prices for a long time.
  15. SO your happy for your dog to getg hit by a prop cos its yours, great attitude. I like flying fast low and having fun, but you'll end up having an accident and either hurting yourself, a friend, your dog or some poor bystander with that attitude. I'm not saying don't have fun just get some guidance on being safer, at least get a model restraint for when your starting it.
  16. If thats you on http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoSGZt64B0E you don't need a bigger engine you need some help mate! No restraining the model on starting, then letting a dog wonder about as you take off is stupid in the extreme. I'm all for fun  when flying but this video represents why flyers get banned from parks and public places.
