  1. My guitar tuner wont tune mine to b flat demented Martian, The boot floor drops on my car and I can get it in but only with the fin and rudder off. Time to change the car! Cheers Eric.
  2. Hi Danny, it was a long time ago when I built the Bulldog but from what I can remember I bolted the wings on then put the struts in which were built as per plan. Assuming incidences are correct , I measured the distance between the wings front and rear and fitted the wires. Any discrepancy in the distance between the wings can be adjusted on the wire provided you don't pull a warp into the wing, if you have an incidence gauge it will be useful. with the wings set, the wires I found just a little pull to get the clips in was about the right tension, you have the advantage of being able to tension with them in place. The one thing you don't want is slack wires so just enough to stop them rattling in the anchor points, this can be tricky as when one is tensioned another tends to slacken so it is a chasing game checking all the time. I hope this does not put you off as it is not as bad as it seems as long as you have patience. I always checked the wires after every flying session or after a heavy landing . I have come across a major problem mine won't fit in the car built up. I have a bigger car than when I had the Bulldog but the boot area it less due to storage places built in. Cheers Eric.
  3. Hi Danny, you won't regret going that way ,as I said earlier taking the link off to adjust it is no fun. I was not keen 0n soldering the wire to the end of a bolt I see you got your brass from the same source as me. I hope to test fly mine soon still a lot of fiddley bits but I think the test flight will be before squadron markings. Cheers Eric.
  4. Hi Danny, looking at your set up is there a left hand and right hand end on your wires? As I understood the Mick Reeves ends were 1 right and 1 end which had a ferrule on the end inside the fork which allowed the wire to turn and take up the slack. 2 rights will not alter the length of the wire. I made my wires to rotate in the fork but I am not to confident of my soft soldering and was thinking o doing it as per. plan. Cheers Eric.   Just looked at the M.R. site and see there is a bolt through an unthreaded fork I'll go and stand in the corner  Edited By Eric Robson on 26/05/2020 14:24:40
  5. Posted by Danny Fenton on 26/05/2020 08:55:35: Thanks Eric, and yep detention it is, see me after class Cheers Danny See you after lockdown I hope! .
  6. Went to our strip yesterday morning ,great weather no body else turned up. Flew a VQ Hurricane which I have just converted to electric as the RCV 91 cd was marginal. It is a heavy aeroplane with the RCV it took a pound of lead to balance, I managed to et the battery right forward and it still needed 1/2 lb of lead. It now has a boost 60 power pack and it flys great on 5c. Eric r.
  7. Posted by Danny Fenton on 25/05/2020 22:41:47: Okay I think it's time for the elephant in the room....... If this doesn't prove to you that the Hawker Fury IS the finest biplane the RAF ever had then you are blind. Hi Danny it looks great all the ribs and riblets showing, it is beautiful. but at the risk of detention and a hundred lines my favourite is still the Gloster Gladiator. Cheers Eric.
  8. Hi Danny . page 59 of the Fury mass build blog for the cockerel art work, but I think you Knew that and were testing the class. The back end of yours is coming together nicely, now you will have to do all the stitching. Cheers Eric.
  9. Yours is going great Danny, never touched mine for three days. I said I would not do any thing else till it is finished then they eased the lock down restrictions. Could not resist the call of the flying field, I now have 4 planes ready to go so back to the Fury today as it is too windy to fly. Cheers Eric. Edited By Eric Robson on 24/05/2020 08:53:58
  10. Looking good Danny, there must have been many Fury's built to the plan as it has been out since the 1970's so I am sticking with it. It would need a long thin lead screw to make the tail plane adjustable. My rivets were done with a riveting tool I bought when building brass locomotives. On the strips next to stitching I riveted one side then turned it over and done the other side to look like holes for the stitching, then I will use a bow pen and enamel paint for the stitches . Cheers Eric.
  11. .Looking on the Vintage Aviation silver wings site the take off and landing photos of the fury appear to show the tail plane level also the picture of the Fury and Nimrods flying the tails look level it does look like a gap under them in the picture.
  12. Be careful with chrome spray Richard, I sprayed my Fury cowl with Simonize chrome spray and tried to polish it, it turned grey.
  13. Posted by Paul Johnson 4 on 21/05/2020 21:37:39: Ouch... that's almost half the cost of the Kit!!!! Boy I would cry if I broke one of those... I will not be using one of those props I have broke three in the last 3 days, two were nose overs as the strip needs cutting so I thought I'd do a wheels up landing and the prop hit the ground first, 16" electrics snap like carrots. Today I flew my Acrowot 46 glow engine great flying nothing broke. Richard it is nice to see my name on the list for the Spitfire. Cheers, Eric.
  14. Hi Danny, the oleo's are fantastic! at first glance I thought you had you had painted your fury in less time than it took to make the oleos. Regarding the tail plane incidence it seems it will fly nose down with a level t/p very much like a Whitley bomber. My uncle worked on Whitley's during the war and said when they were flying it looked like they had a broken back. Cheers Eric.
  15. I forgot about Cloud, one of our club members has just completed a Cloud Mosquito but it is yet to fly. It is slightly smaller than yours so I hope it works out for you. Looking forward to your progress. Eric.
  16. Thanks Danny and Martian, not much done today, rare heatwave in the North East went flying quite windy and the grass has grown quickly in a week. Had a nose over with my SE5 so repairs to the motor mount. Cheers Eric.
  17. Hi Danny, I made a mask from Fablon and sprayed the white with mat white acrylic, the blue is Humbrol enamel the outline is with a bow pen compass and hand painted fill in. The red is sticker trim but it is too glossy so I will probably hand paint it with enamel. Cheers Eric.
  18. Feeling artistic I painted the roundels on the top wing yesterday. I also decided to attach the radiator to the hatch behind the front u/c legs and hold it on with two screws between the rad. vanes.
  19. Sorry Mig 17? Edited By Eric Robson on 18/05/2020 18:53:51
  20. Hi Robin, the Robin Fowler Mosquito is 64" span the canopy is 8" long and 4" wide but, it is the bomber version with the pointed screen so you would need the glazed front moulding. The ex Complete A Pack Mossie Is 63" span and they do both versions of canopy but they are not suitable for cutting down as the frames are heavily embossed. I am building the bomber version but it is on hold at the moment . Cheers Eric.
