  2. Thanks Danny, what a great flying field, compared to ours we are more like landing on an aircraft carrier. I was thinking 5055/06 560kv motors would be needed but I would be happy with the performance of yours. Still nothing decided until end of lock down. Better not drift off topic so back to the Fury, Cheers Eric.
  3. Posted by Danny Fenton on 03/05/2020 21:45:22: Okay a whole day and just the tops of two upper wing panels taped...... crikey this is a slog. But on the plus side the wings will have lots of depth when painted, silver will show all the underlying detail. Cheers Danny Hi Danny, I'm just finding out why it was 30 years since I made my last true scale biplane, it is a slog. On another thread you have what looks like a Seagull Mosquito. what is your opinion of it?. I was thinking of getting one until I watched you tube part one and part two when it got to part two the flying part it was written off second flight after repairs from the maiden flight crash. He was using 12x8 props where as you had 20" could be a lack of power as he said it was turned too slow and stalled where as the maiden flight it tip stalled on landing approach .Not very good publicity for Seagull. Cheers Eric. p s Great shot of the Mossie. Edited By Eric Robson on 03/05/2020 23:34:36
  4. Hi Martian, don't know if you do this already but can you vary the deflection of the airflow so that when there is enough to lift it more can be diverted to the rear for speed?. By the way the fan looks a lot better than the two bladed prop, keep your fingers clear!
  5. Hi Danny, I'm pleased you got that sorted as the wing looked so good, It is not a big problem with mine just going 2steps forward then 3 back . I had a bath last night but the water did not take the wrinkles out of my skin. ha ha. Eric.
  6. Those wings look really good and much more manageable than my one piece version. If you look at the overhead picture of the full size one on the Vintage aviation site there is gaps at the wing joints. You may finish before me as I have removed the fuselage cladding from the side as I was unhappy with it. Cheers Eric.
  7. Thanks Danny, I try to build models such as the Fury that will fit in my car built up. that is why I made it one piece. You will be fine with a van generally they do not have a much bigger footprint than a medium size car. I had a camper van about 20 yrs. ago based on a Talbot chassis and it could go anywhere except a multi story car park. don't ask how I found out. The Chipmunk has always been a favourite of mine. I built the Airsail kit version and put all the detail on, hundreds of rivets It won the scale trophy at our club. I hope you have great success with yours when we get back to flying again. Cheers Eric.
  8. Looking good Jose, I did not like that part of the build. hope the rest goes alright for you. Cheers Eric.
  9. Hi Danny, I thought you were using the Mick Reeves parts. I have just posted my solution on my blog. how successful it will be remains to be seen. Probably better silver soldered, many years ago I built the Bulldog from the D. Bryant plan and found the rigging needed adjusting on occasions, not much fun trying to tension it then get the link back into the hole. At least you don't have to listen to Elgar now, I notice the Nimrod has a head rest for the pilot. it must have been a big jolt when catapulting off the ship. Cheers Eric.
  10. Thanks Jose and Martin . I keep jumping from one task to another. I did not like the rear upper wing rigging fastener with the wire lopped around a single point. The full size has two anchor points so I have made a brass triangle to mount the wires on so that they can be adjusted individually. very useful for Mick Reeves rigging fittings. I find the system on the plan is awkward to set up so having the steel links all ready I have made mine like this. The wire is pushed through the link and a piece of brass tube is soldered on the end. I run some solder along the seam of the link tube, apiece of brass tube that would fit over the threaded part would be better but I did not have any. Edited By Eric Robson on 29/04/2020 14:19:38
  11. Thanks Martin, I had seen page 25 but it must have slipped my memory. easily done these days. I do recall seeing a biplane when I was young about the beginning of the war. It was a fine summers day and we were playing in the garden of our next door neighbour when this plane flew over very very low it was either a Hind or a Fury, there was only one person in it, it was R.A.F. trainer yellow with the front silver. The noise was deafening it stuck in my memory forever.
  12. They look very good Martin, hard to tell their plastic tube once painted. What is the drawing they are resting on?
  13. Thanks Martin, I always put webs in when called for ,Brian Taylor plans always use them. Some times wings can be too ridged. I am weight watching now as it is up to 3kg. with motor esc and battery and still a lot to do. I have not fitted the motor yet but I put the battery and motor in the compartment behind F1 and it almost balanced, just slightly tail heavy.
  14. Hi Martian and all, I have had a lot of trouble getting the cabane and struts right ,it now fits the jig and is all soldered up . I have kept walking away and banging out some music , really I should have concentrated on the job in hand but after forming most of my stock of wire to get it right I was ready to give up ,but I made it in the end. hopefully all down hill from now on. Looking at Danny's Nimrod I see he has webbed the wing spars, I did did ask the question but have not yet had a reply. The drawing does not show webs on the spars is this belt and braces or has there been problems with the strength of the wings. As I am about to cover the top wing I think I will put them on anyway. I managed to get some flour from the supermarket yesterday so as a break I may bake some pies,
  15. Hi Danny, apologies for not reading your Nimrod thread sooner it is mine of information I have been crediting Martin F. for some of the things I have picked up from your thread. As a late starter to the build I went ahead in my own way and fell foul of the mistakes in the plan. I have built from plans for more years than I can remember and always managed in the end . I see you have webs on the wing spars,I have looked at the plan and can't see them indicated, is this your input or have I missed something?. From the outset it was not going to be super scale as it would go no further than our local strip. but with lockdown it may be some time before that happens. Thanks for the build thread I look forward to seeing yours finished. Eric r. (suffering from insomnia)
  16. Lovely job Martin , makes me think I should have gone for yellow I can see my Acrowot much better than my grey ME109 . Too many grey skies up in the North East.
