  1. The Russians seemed to be the most prolific in this type of flight, designing some quit large troop-carrying aircraft amongst others.
  2. I was looking at Ground Effect aircraft on the Interweb and was wondering what wing profile would work for a model, any ideas folks?
  3. According to the Telegraph yesterday the guns and ammunition were removed by the military when the wreckage was discovered.
  4. Posted by Simon Chaddock on 13/04/2012 21:54:59: Hmmmm. I have sat in many light planes and watched the pilots. Apart from take off and cross wind landings do they use the rudder much? Glider pilots are different but they have to handle significant wing inertia and adverse yaw. If the plane makes a more or less 'natural' turn what exactly is wrong with bank and yank? I can however see quite a few dangers in doing flat turns, particularly when close to the ground. Hi Simon, I built up almost 700 hours in Light Aircraft (including twins) before I lost my license due to reduced eyesight and can assure you that the rudder is used constantly from take-off to landing. As a student pilot I was slapped on the head more than once for not "keeping the ball in the middle" during turns. Most airliners have ARI (aileron-rudder interconnect) that suits the aircraft for most manoeuvres but there are times when a more positive application is needed. Imagine a Jumbo having to do a Rate 2 turn without rudder input! It would scare the hell out of the passengers for one thing!
  5. I am going to echo Steve-w-o on this one and I think the mods should remove this thread. This is after all an aeromodelling enthusiasts site.
  6. 0-2 hours, nowhere near enough! Work keeps getting in the way! Anyone that says 20+ hours is either retired, doesn't  need to work or has their own field! Edited By Doug Ireland on 24/04/2012 19:38:23
  7. Not sure what you guys are doing with your TX's but I haven't managed to break any of my trim levers yet. Over energetic thumbs perhaps?
  8. I only have the one a H9 CAP 232G and with a petrol engine it doesn't leave too much mess. I've probably had about 60 flights with it so far and other than breaking the spats (now removed) the airframe/covering are still pretty good!
  9. Get well soon Myron and thanks for letting us know Chrissy.
  10. Sounds about right. Running a bit rich will stop the engine "leaning out" in the air.
  11. I use aileron/rudder mix on all my models. I start with 3% rudder to full aileron deflection and go from there. It's surprising how little rudder is needed for good balanced turns. I don't have the radio mentioned in the OP but it's simple to set on the DSX9 Edited By Doug Ireland on 09/04/2012 10:03:01
  12. Thumbs for stooging around, forefingers and thumbs for the tricky bits!
  13. My forum name is Doug Ireland but you can call me... Doug Ireland!
  14. 'er indoors told me mine has arrived but i'll need to wait till I get off this oil rig before I can read it
  15. ...and another! Ok this gets boring quick!
  16. Just thought I'd add one to my total.
  17. I like PatMc's idea, i think i may modify some of my models while the weather is still too windy to fly.
  18. I very nearly did the same thing with a brand new battery pack some time ago. I had the new plugs ready for soldering and was just about to cut off the factory installed heat-shrink on the battery leads and noticed that I had both wires in the snips! I can understand a general hobbyist doing it but I'm supposed to be a professional sparky!
  19. For some reason the video that David posted won't play. There is a bar through the "play" button. The one that Chrissie added works ok though.
